How to ink group run through week 5
-
Hi guys! This is where some of us are working through How To Ink 2.0 in the weeks running up to Inktober! There are 3 weeks to get through the meatier bits of the course, which gives us just enough time
Everyone's welcome to participate, but in order to have access to the classes and homework you need an SVS subscription. It's worth it.
If you wanna join and want to catch up, feel free to check out week one here: https://forum.svslearn.com/topic/7905/how-to-ink-2-0-group-runthrough-week-1/123
Feel free to do digital or traditional. It's all good.
This week it's time to explore light and value and all that entails when interacting with local value! SORCERY!
Watch:
'light and shadow' series of videos. Three vids!
Homework:
-Make yourself a series of gradient scales using some of your favourite hatching techniques.
-Render at least three cubes. A cube that has a light local value, a cube that has a mid local value, and a cube that has a dark local value.
-Apply your gradient to a sphere.
Extra special awesome homework that the hyper-intelligent marmot people of Zebulon Six consider heretical and is punishable by hard labour in the clover mines :
-Render some objects that have a mix of lighter and darker values (such as a cube with a dark stripe running around it)
-Render a reflective object
-Apply this newfound sorcery to a drawing of your own or one of the drawing pack sheets.
Feel free to post comments/questions/homework and ask for feedback here !
And have fun

@Braden-Hallett the poor wee marmots.

@xin-li I really like the scratchy wash 'pulls' in the bottom right of the second page. I can see those being the start of an awesome tree line, or a nice grungy texture

-
@Braden-Hallett Feeling the same, I have the urge to go back to see what was week1 about.
-
@Braden-Hallett I just discovered this post today, i will share mine later. Great job on the progress guys and letโs keep going!
-
Does finishing my September piece count as practice? I did ink! And I created textures and tones. The Marmot people might be sending me to mine clover.

I may have to do that, too

Join on in that's the nice thing about running classes like this. Are you going to start from week one?

Finishing your September piece absolutely counts (I saw it on instagram, I think!) Though I must admit the marmot people are unforgiving... And relentlessly fuzzy... The fuzz... It haunts me still...

@Braden-Hallett i think starting on week 1 is a good idea i will catch up to you guys eventually by the way i am using a kuretake zig brush pen and I noticed the bristle tip is already slightly bent due to wear and tear perhaps?. Do other brush pens have this issue as well?

@Braden-Hallett I am mesmerized by that brush pen swoosh you got going there.

having a day job really hampers my drawing time
It really does
But all this practice and drawin' when we don't wanna draw is really payin' off

Iโve fallen quite behind this past week due to taking on another project for a friend but Iโm trying my best to keep my head above water and stay accountable to you guys. Hereโs todayโs warm up. I need to add some more pieces in there and catch up on this weekโs video but one step at a time for now.

Do what you can You got this. A tiny bit on a consistent basis is always better than all at once (as we've all learned cramming for exams, I'm sure :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_cold_sweat: )
