Dream Portfolio Homework -3rd Inline

So @Coreyartus was inspired by @Erin-Cortese and well I was inspired by you both. Aww I know that's sweet.

So after 4 runs at it this is my Dream Portfolio -style centred. I know two of these works are by Pascal Campion but every other work is unique, trust me.

This my current collection of Digital Illustration.

Reflections:

1. I like soft edges, brushstrokes and sometimes clean edges (intentional placement).
2. Use of framing (nature, other characters) and negative space
3. Shapes and forms created by brushstrokes and shadow not line
4. Line used most as description not definition (outline).
5. Composition emphasising the triangle, directional lines and rule of thirds unless centre stage (even then slightly off to one side).
6. Facial expressions created mainly by simple lines and shapes.
7. Complementary colours with an additional accent -mainly orange and blue. Sometimes monotone.
8. Overlap to create depth.
9. Blends more gradual and softer.
10. Ideas centre around the following play, discovery, empathy. I personally like to include more laughter but I am more concerned right now about how then what and why.

I will be reworking older work and work not completed more before I doing a master study - I am itching to add these to my current work.

But I will be following up on this thread to ensure I am pursuing the style I want. Accountability people! lols

@Heather-Boyd Woohoo!! Lovely selections!! I definitely see the use of white space/negative space as a composition component echoed in your pieces.

I'm not brave enough to go back and re-work some of my pieces yet. I have to process more of what I'm not seeing my pieces that I want to infuse. You've come up with so many great observations--I'm hoping I can distance myself enough to navigate them differently. I can't wait to see what you come up with for your own pieces!!

we have similar favorite artists! from what I saw, it seems the selected pieces also mostly have very distinguished work of lighting.

Very nice selections! The analysis is not one of my strengths, but I do see a common thread in the themes of the artwork you chose. They all seem to have that warm and fuzzy feeling that creates a sense of comfort and safety. There is a really nice softness to the artwork too.

Thank you -at the end of the day who doesn't want to curl up warm and fuzzy if not figuratively at least lols. Analysis isn't as difficult but finding the right words or terms I do struggle with.

Just wanting to take a break from 'lurking' to thank all you guys for sharing your dream portfolio exercises. I have been stuck on this so long because I really have no clue how to go about 1) picking the images 2) analysing the images. I don't know how to articulate what I like or see in 'art terms' if that makes sense. so end up by saying ooh I like cute cats or something like that. Reading through your thought processes and then referring to the images is so helpful - you have no idea. Thanks again!

So I reworked the Dino work and may touch it up with open feedback (now and later) after some master studies. My biggest blunder in getting work done is fearing I won't like it. But I like this -it was fun and I got to draw my dandelions the way I like. Hope you like it!

Wow, the additions to the dino piece make a big difference! It was an engaging image before, but it felt like more of a study. Now it has narrative and it feels very fresh and contemporary. Well done!

So I reworked February's Love contest and this is what I came up with, a before and an after. I still struggle with my edges however I am working through it. Now I can get started on some master copy studies and will post here.

I learned I like sketching in more angular lines I find them easier and more dynamic.

I’m uncertain what type of brush she uses? Best guess is a dry brush and or pastel. I will have to get as close as I can because I don’t have her brushes.
