Character Practice
-
Hi everyone!
I'm trying to build my kid lit portfolio, through several steps. One of them is to improve my characters and character style. I have always drawn a lot of animals, and mainly focused on anthropomorphic characters. I now try to draw 50 children (and keep improving my animal style too). To hold myself accountable I thought to create this thread to share some of my sketches and finished characters. These are not for a specific project or my portfolio, but just to practice my style.
Any feedback is appreciated
Bumblebee
A kid playing hero. I'm really figuring out my style when drawing kids. This was the first kid I was somewhat happy with. I think the sketch turned out better than the colored version though (which I'm starting over).

@nadyart really nice...I like the texture you are putting in too...subtle and cute!

very cute. love it. I would liek to see more of him doing things - playing, interacting with other people, animals, or objects.

The colored version of the little boy did not sit right with me, so I decided to start over (still used the sketch though). I started with a monochrome version, just to get the values right. I like it better like this, and I hope I can proceed to create a colored version that looks better than the first one, preferably without linework.

Some more character practice

@nadyart The bee is so cute. I'm looking forward to see more cute creations. Just beautiful.

I love the last image, is it a baby badger? Is the baby badger and the bee going for an adventure?

@xin-li Thank you! They may be going on an adventure The tiny sketches are my daily warmup, so they do not have a lot of narrative on their own but they sometimes give me ideas to create a new character
