The Moment Before-April WIP
-
Hi! This is my first time trying out one of the monthly prompt. I've been looking at this board for a while and thought I'd like to join in! I love seeing all the sketches and revisions and seeing how the final pieces turn out.
In my image, I want to show a yellow bird with a broken wing, "meeting" the other main character, a snapping turtle. The bird is hiding for cover, believing that it is going to end up as a snack for this gigantic turtle. They end up going on an adventure later.
I'm wondering if anyone has advice on how to make this composition better? Should I adjust the angle? Maybe have the turtle's mouth even closer? The plant in the foreground is a cattail that the turtle stepped on. Is it distracting?I'll work in watercolour/gouache and then edit in photoshop for the final image.
Any comments would be awesome!
Thanks!

@steph_artist The only thing I see is that you might add a foreground element for depth. Maybe a few uncrushed cattails on that left side? Love where it's going!

@steph_artist I really love this. Beautifully drawn, look forward to seeing the more finished piece.

@JerrySketchyArt Thanks for the suggestion! I'm going to add some plants into the foreground. Hopefully that will add some depth.

@lovetherobot Thank you very much!

I would recommend having the little bird raise his other wing so that you can see the terror on his face.

I like the cattail under his foot it makes the tension more for me like he just stomped on that to get over there, that turtle means business!
