New Challenge

  • Hi everyone! 🙂

My name's Davide and I'm a 34 year old guy Living in Milan (Italy), working as Animator in the videogames industry I try to find the balance spending time with my family, the job and the need to improve...and that's why I'm here, since I was a little kid I was deeply fascineted by animated movie and comics and moving forward I had the opportunity to be exposed to lot's of different medium both traditional and digital...driven by a strong curiosity I had to get my finger on everything new that comes in my reach but one thing was never completly abbandoned and of course it's drawing.
so this year I decided to challenge myself and see how far I can get in one year (using my free time) to improve my drawing skills and create more sinergy with the animation skills.
I don't know how much I will be able to stick to this challenge but I really want to make a change and play full out...let's see what happen! 😃

thanks for your time in reading this and see you in the next post

PS: a big Thanks to the founders for the amazing job they did, especially the podcast wich was the thing that makes me commit to this challenge and subscribe eheh

Benvenuto Davide! I'm an American who lives in Turin. There are a lot of good fundamentals in the videos. I hope you enjoy learning from the site, and remember that you can also post your work here and get critiques!

  • Benvenuto! I was born in Milano, grew up in Italy, live in Switzerland and work mostly with the US 😉
It´s a challenge worth taking and I wish you all the best. You may be interested in the life story of French artist Stephan Wootha. He also took a year to switch to art and the results are quite impressive. He gave a couple of interviews available on YouTube.

  • @rough Hi Davide, Welcome to the forum! You'll like it here. Your challenge sounds great and inspires me. I wish you the best of luck with it.

  • Welcome Davide! You can learn a ton in a year, and I echo @smceccarelli's suggestion, do check out Stéphane Wootha Richard. He's got some amazing work, but really his story is a bit different and inspiring.

He was a musician who then got into software development because he had a family, but when he was 36 he decided that wasn't his calling, so he worked to develop his art skills and get into concept art and illustration. He tells his story in the interview with Level Up if you're interested.

  • Thank you all guys for your kind comments! 😃 I'll definitely check out your suggestion, and I hope to post soon something... in the meanwhile take care everyone 🙂

  • Ciao Dave!
It may seem easy but it's a true challenge and in order to succeed you've got to have plan. Otherwise it can get really random and it will lengthen all improvement (at least that's how it's in my case 😃 )

    Saluti da Bologna 😉
Fingers crossed for your challenge !

Welcome David. I’m even older and looking to level up my skills and enjoyment, although I do not aim to make this support me.

Have you listened to Jake Parker’s outline of what to do in the first year? I believed it’s in episode 2 of the 3 point perspective podcast. It is specific and daunting and inspiring. I’ve mapped out my plan for November 2018-2019. I’m steadily working away. I would love it if you or any others would I’d like to co-commit to a 2019 plan.

    Susan

  • thanks again for the support guys ^__^

thanks Susan, Yes I already listen all the podcast wich I'm a big fan of, and right know I have a 3 year plan but divided in sub goals of 1 year each starting and finish during my birthday (no way I will not remember the deadline ^___^) of course this first year will be the "easyest" I will be focusing on removing the rust on my drawing skill, getting back to the basics and starting get out my comfort zone...

I will love to see your plan in progress too!

    have a great day everyone!
    Davide
