SVS JUNE CONTEST: MUSHROOM VILLAGE
-
@burvantill Thanks!
-
I woke up this morning to a notification that I was about to miss my chance to do a mushroom village for an SVS contest, so I decided to dedicate today's painting time to creating this. The location is actually something I can use in a later book, on the next continent Angelica and Dylon visit and it matches the local of some similar illustrations I have lined up, so that was an exciting case of synchronicity.

Hi! Here is my entry for this month.
The back story- Mushroom Village was home to many little insects. Whenever a new flower bud was about to bloom, it would glow with light of life. In that light, one of the insect would play music, to welcome the birth new flower. The rest of the inhabitants would listen the music and enjoy all night long.

Thank you for continuing to host monthly contests! This is such a great way to practice for deadlines and create new portfolio pieces consistently.
Here is my entry for Mushroom Village. Completed using mixed traditional media.

I wanted to do a piece that would be a small step towards one of my larger goals: make my own comic book. I still have a lot to learn and practice, but it was a lot of fun making this little comic page. Hopefully y'all get a small laugh from it in some way!
The dialogue was added in photoshop, and the rest was just done traditionally and then scanned. If you want, please leave some feedback about what I could have done better and/or your overall thoughts (don't be shy, give me some tough-love! I'll only get better from it). Thanks! -
Here is my interpretation. Chris Van Allsburg is a hero of mine so I thought I would try and emulate his style. !

@chrisaakins I couldn't get the graphite to photo well but oh well! This is a first time to enter a contest on SVS and I am a newbie at illustration. I look forward to it! Thanks for any input you may provide.
