Our SVS Virtual Studio September 2021🎨
-
Hello Rabbits!
Welcome to September. The month that kicks off the best season in the world, full of pumpkin spice, colorful foliage and spooky fun times! Yay Autumn. (Sept 22)Just imagine you are walking through a studio, silently looking over people’s shoulders at their work. I'm predicting a lot of people will be pre-sketching for Jake Parker's Inktober. At least, you will be if you want to finish well.
Or maybe prepping all of your holiday specials? Hmm...Can't wait to see what you share! This is NOT a place for critiques. You may applaud, encourage, ooh and ah only.
...and GO!

Slowly working on this piece as part of a Harry Potter style kids sketch series.

Due to covid we haven't been able to do our annual family photo for two years in a row now, so I decided to fabricate one myself... It took me a few weeks (man I wish my grandma had used birth control ) and often I'd regret having started this, but I'm glad I made it. Having them printed tomorrow and sending 'em out to all my aunts and uncles next week...

@PieterVanDerBeek wow that's some dedication!

Creating these guys using illustrator for signs for my church's preschool:

More vinyl designs. Should be getting the stickers in today. Excited to see how the turn out.

@PieterVanDerBeek You have a good-looking family! Which one is you? I have done something like this for a few families but never to this scale. Kudos to you! I especially like how you made it seem like there are other family members hanging off the page like some sort of Where's Waldo pic.

I had a rare day off so I thought I would watch some more of @SarahLuAnn 's illustrator art course and learn some more illustrator. Here is my first successful venture using the pen and pencil tools in Illustrator.
-
@chrisaakins Thanks! I MADE them look good, haha (That's an illustrator's job, right to make reality a little better-looking?)
That Waldo vibe was exactly what I was going for - wanted to have them stand in a bigger crowd in stead of pose as an isolated group on a (white) background. I'm in the bottom right, with my wife and kid. -
Working on a watercolor of Aesop's Fable of the fox and the crow. I'm posting this now because the next stage is adding color and I will probably wreck it!
-
Doodeedoo gonna go to the next class. Doodeedoodoo gonna eat me another kindergartener. Doodeedoo.
-
Working on a series of star-themed puns. This one is: Flamed Out Rock Star.

I've practiced a bit of perspective lately and had a lot of fun doing the layout for this one. In the end I ended up getting so confused with how the light and shadows would behave in this kind of space I think I really need to make some studies and learn more about it so I don't struggle as much next time.
-
Finished my series of greeting cards that will go up for sale on my Etsy site as soon as the paper arrives and I can print them out and make some product photography. Woohoo! I did them all live on my art stream, and I'm happy with how they turned out. I think they will go well with my calendar that's already for sale. I'm getting braver with the amount of detail but making stronger choices to "simplify" parts of things, too. I'm enjoying this aspect of illustration quite a bit, and will probably pursue more of it in the future.

Last two illustration of candy/food characters done.
I am now much more proficient in illustrator.
-
Great work all! I've been drawing these goofy trucks in my sketchbook. Will be starting some Inktober drawings soon.
-
@Coreyartus Beautifully done. I keep an illustrated nature journal and there are a lot of birds on my pages so I especially appreciate your work.
-
I painted my Aesop’s Fable piece that I posted earlier I. The thread. It’s traditional watercolor. One thing I still clearly need to figure out is how to photograph my pieces better. My scanner is old and does a poor job so I bought soft lights to photograph the pieces and still end up struggling with white balance. I may have to spring for a good scanner.

Sharing a short animated movie based on my Scary Lime Slide illustration.
This was animated in Procreate.
