Hi! I'm wanting to get into reading/making graphic novels and web comics. Anyone got recommendations for ones that have just phenomenal line work? I'm mostly wanting black and white works, but color works too. Thank you so much! šŸ˜„

@Meg-Clayburn Toppi… Collected volumes 1 through 5. Sergio Toppi’s line work is truly masterful and unique.

I was blown away by ā€˜Tale of Sand’ done by art from Ramón PĆ©rez. Also love ā€˜American Vampire’ black and white (limited color palette) more brush lines from Rafael Albuquerque , but incredible story too. Haven’t read comics in a bit though.

              Some B@W comics:
-Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo, although he was so good at drawing and action packed that it was a bit overwhelming for me to read.
-Nausicaa by Hayao Miyazaki, although his drawing and writing style is a little cluttered
-I second Toppi, his drawings are soo good 😃
-Three Shadows by Cyril Pedrosa, I wasn't distracted at all while reading this, the story has a nice flow
-Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me by Rosemary Valero-O'Connell has a very pretty art style, it isn't B@W but is very limited color palate

When you said ā€œblack and whiteā€ I instantly thought of Corto Maltese by Hugo Pratt. It’s a classic, His linework may be a bit outdated in style and the construction of the characters lacks somewhat in consistency, but the whole of the artwork creates a great mood and I was really drawn into his world.
Great thread idea, I am happy to discover the other suggested works!

This one summer by Jillian Tamiki. Her illustrations are amazing. But this book is also scolded for its poor story-arc in the writers' community, even though it received a Caldecott honor.
