Hey everybody, first time posting here.

I did a self portrait to complete my profile on this forum. Looking forward to participating in this helpful community and get some critique and feedback to improve my drawing/illustration skills.

Hello!
Feels like I haven't been here for ages. (It's ok, I won't be offended if you haven't missed me.)
I've been having a lot more fun with my drawing this month: taking part in artists' play dates, warming up with scribbles, blobbing ink around, and throwing perspective and proportion out the window as much as I can.

Here's a close-up of the most disturbing cats I've ever drawn:

I've also challenged myself to draw a pageful of animals every weekday for a year. Here's most of day 3:

Hi guys. My agent has suggested that I broaden my portfolio offering. So it appears I'm drawing a virus character! This is currently a work in progress. I start with a traditional pencil drawing that I slowly render in Photoshop. Do any of you guys work that way?

Love this virus dude…very fun, and scary. In answer to your question I always start with pencil and scan in and then paint over it in PS.

I managed to get my virus character finished yesterday. It's been slow-going recently, with the new baby, emotional toddler, and the usual colds and illness, but we got it done! ha.

I was advised by my agent that it would be a good idea to add some dinosaurs to my portfolio, so I've been working on this T-rex illustration. I'm planning to add some text at the top and maybe at the bottom too. You can still see the traditional pencil drawing on the background, and I cant wait to paint over it. Still lots to do, especially with the colour/lighting, but it's been really fun trying my hand at a dinosaur for a change.

Hey all - I haven't gotten very far in SVSLearn yet, but I did work on this portrait the other day. It was a sketch in one of my sketchbooks and I decided to digitize it. Her neck is def too long but I like how she turned out otherwise. I haven't taken time to figure out how to draw hair yet hence this isnt entirely finished but I decided to be done with it and move on.

Still working on setting up a schedule for learning in SVSLearn and in another course where I make patterns and working a full time design job lol But illustration is where I would LOVE to land someday!

@Jamie-Seroogy, great work! Good luck getting your schedule planned out. It can be hard making time to work on your art, but it is worth it (even if it is just a little at a time).

Achievement unlocked! Today I completed my "100 Birds" project that I've been working on since the beginning of summer.

I'll be making greeting cards, merch, bookmarks, notepads, and potentially a coffee table book. I already have a 2024 Art Calendar out.

I did this project based on Jake's "100 Things" advice, and I'm really happy with it! Each bird took between 1.5-3 hours to draw and paint in Procreate, and many of them I did for my livestreams. I learned a lot and my process evolved and got more specific, regular, and repeatable as I went on. I'm now much more familiar with how to achieve what I want.

I'd recommend the "100 Things" experience for everyone. This was the second time I tried to accomplish it, having failed at 70-something (?) with a series of "Hands of Family & Friends" that I just got too bored with... Birds had more variety and I felt I had the opportunity to be much more expressive, and I'd finally developed the drive (need?) to really want to get at least one set of something actually done. This worked out for me.

I've been able to give the birds away as phone wallpapers on my social media accounts as they're completed, as well as advertise the available prints further down the road, so each image has paid off twice. Lots of adjusting for print applications, though, so if you do something that has a lot of light/dark contrast and intense dark color, be aware you're going to have to adjust things a lot.

Whew! Onward!
