Creating pieces for SCBWI PORTFOLIO SHOWCASE
-
Hi everyone! So I'm creating new pieces for the portfolio showcase at the last minute again. This is what I have so far.
I had a traumatic experience at the Winter portfolio showcase last year. I uploaded my images but it turns out there was a bug in there system that made it look like the images were uploaded but in reality they weren't. Some of you here might already know about my story. So if any of you are thinking of joining, make sure your images are actually uploaded and I wish u all the best.
Some info about the piece below, this is an illustration of the Maranao (a Filipino Indigenous tribe) dance called "Singkil". The story of this dance is that the Princess was abducted by Diwatas (nymphs/ fairy folk) in order to teach her fiancé prince a lesson about philandering. This dance is similar to Tinikling.
I'll post more work soon. Hopefully, I can complete at least 1 more piece by the 30th.

-
@Johanna-Kim @PenAndrew thank u!

@Nyrryl-Cadiz beautiful, I love the style of this piece, it has rich patterns together with simplicity. I am drawn in by all of the different things each character is doing, while it is clear who the main character is. Her dance pose is beautiful, I can almost hear the music.

@jenn THANK U!
-
This is absolutely gorgeous! The patterns really draw me in and make me want to really study it. Best of luck!

@Nyrryl-Cadiz Beautiful textures! I also love the motifs on the Singkil piece. The instruments remind me of gamelan ensemble, is it gamelan or something related?
-
All lovely!
-
@JQ Hi! Yes, it is a part of the Gamelan ensemble. Here in the Philippines, the smaller gongs are called Kulintang while the bigger gongs are called Agung.

@Asyas_illos @kirsten-mcg thank u!
