@burvantill Thanks Lisa, there are a lot of positive things that you have shared here, and you remind me that there are always steps towards a goal, but one must take them!
Thanks for your generosity and giving your time and such a good set of suggestions, that's a lot of exciting things to pursue here, and I will write down everything you said! I will get back to you on my progress.

Had to take a break from CB stuff to focus on my webcomic. Still working on Eps 3, part 4 and 5 now. Once I finish Eps 3 I'm going to take a break from my comic and focus the next 2-3 weeks on my Children's Book portfolio. So you'll see more of me then.
Currently here is what's on my screen. Omega Elixir on Tapas It's a bit of a spoiler too. Hee Hee.

Didn't make the cut for Critique Arena but this family is makin' the best out of a failed beach day.

As always - having fun with messy paints
I have been in love with turners pastel acrylic gouache lately but want to try out normal gouache more once I save up to buy the good stuff. I'm slowly working on a Florida animals ABC book that is just a personal project (mainly for me to practice with just paints as opposed to adding colored pencil as well). And I've also been painting more botanical images lately (I visited my brother recently and he has venus fly traps and sundews as houseplants so I had fun using those as reference). I'm also doing some digital work which I can't share but I prefer sharing my traditional stuff anyways.
This last one is my most recent (finished today ) was very fun to make. It's for Monsters.go on instagram. I use slightly textured paper and start with colored pencil. I outline and add the darkest values with the pencils and then I add the watercolor and then go back over with more pencils.
-
@Mary-Toth ooh I love these! Iβve working on an illo with a giant Venus fly trap too! Still in rough stages though
-
@Mary-Toth Love your monsters go illustration.
-
@Asyas_illos They're so fun to draw!
-
@PenAndrew thanks!

@Mary-Toth
Hi Mary, thanks so much for sharing your process on these pieces (textured paper, and use of pencil and watercolor). The outcome is very rich, and of course the images are really fun. -
@Mary-Toth It is also good to see what Prismacolor premier can do as I bought a set of these recently and haven't used them yet.
I also noticed on the second read through that you shared your process- thanks for that.
I have been recently trying to put down a wash of watercolour first and then pencils on top. I would like to try your step of watercolour second. You have a lovely softness to the image. -
Another master study!
Due to limited time, I am just having fun with studies and taking an SVS course here and there when time allows, which hasnβt been very often as of late.
-
A very rough sketch of an Alice illustration Iβll be working on for a few. If anyoneβs ever played American mcgees Alice by ea games, this is influenced by it but I will include both Alices, kinda weird I knowβ¦
-
@Jeremy-Ross I really love seeing these studies and the ones you did before it is a real encouragement to have a go. An excellent set of copies.
-
@Mary-Toth These are fabulous! When I use my prismacolor pencils, you can also use gamsol on them. After a few layers of pencils, use a paintbrush etc dipped in some gamsol and it breaks down the wax in the pencil and it makes the pencil have a painterly look to it. Useful for blending especially.
-
@Jeremiahbrown OMG This is great!! Sad you missed the cut-off. I'm sure you would have been in the top 16.
-
@Jeremiahbrown love it!!!
-
@HollyOakley Awww, thanks!
@AngelinaKizz Thank you! -
@Mary-Toth I love your style. I have been working on various line and wash techniques for some time now but have never tried colored pencils with the watercolor. (I usually do regular pencil, ink, or watercolor with a dip pen.) When you say you do this on "textured paper," what kind of paper do you mean?
-
@Asyas_illos so much energy in this one! Can't wait to see it finished
-
@Mary-Toth this is sooooo cool!
