April Inn Progress!Come say hi!
-
@CLCanadyArts Hah! a lot of guys missed that.I think I might have relied on the speech bubbles a little to much!
That is a neat idea! -
@Georgios-Christopoulos I have to admit, I did not read the speech bubbles. Sorry. It's a cool character concept though.
-
@CLCanadyArts no need to be sorry! It was a mistake from my part to rely on the speech bubbles on a character design sheet to begin with!thanks for the word though!!
-
@Georgios-Christopoulos one idea I thought of for my seaside thumbnail but forgot to add: a lighthouse at the top of the largest structure. The idea I had for my Inn was that it was alone somewhere in the middle of the sea, could be interesting to bring that element into yours. A lighthouse would be such an attractor!
-
@Georgios-Christopoulos This looks so good! Everyone is doing a great job. It will be a tough competition this month for sure! @jakecrowe You should go for it! It's really cool to see different ideas of the same theme!
-
@jakecrowe a lighthouse is an intresting idea..thanks!
@chrisaakins thanks a lot Chris!!Yes the quality of the enties has skyrocketed these past months! -
@jakecrowe @Georgios-Christopoulos -- a lighthouse instead of power lines would be super interesting! (And a better composition, too.) Love that idea!
-
I like how this has an element of mystery. Is it safe... is it not... we wonβt know until we go inside, and then it could be too late!
Could the inn be powered by a windmill where the windmill sails are made from the sails of old (shipwrecked?) ships that have been washed up?
-
@Melissa-Bailey-0 Lighthouse worked!!
@lizardillo thanks! Yes the idea was for the duo to visit a shady tavern-inn that hints that fishes are NOT safe in there.. I tried the windmill but it gets so so busy. I am so close to stray on the path of "busy video game environments" if it gets busier ,I think..What do you think? -
Ok lads! This months contest entry goes really slow, makes me wonder if I ll make it..
With this design update, I essentially signed up my own doom, since this is in no way considered cute in the contest, but I could not help it!
Share your opinion if you feel like it!
Hope the progress sparks some idea to someone! -
@Georgios-Christopoulos yes you have a valid point there. I have a tendency to make thing too busy.
-
Hope the piece makes it in as well and excited to see the finished result! I can also see why shark hat is so nervous to stay at the Inn and the shark atop the lighthouse looks very menacing.
-
@Fay Thanks Fay!Appreciate the support!! Yes, Joseph has some reasons to be nervous Menacing shark doesn't always go well against cute thingies
-
I like the original. I feel more apprehensive about the giant lighthouse, I think it takes away from the inn -it is so much larger with the main attraction shining light out of the sharks mouth (don't get me wrong I like the light house lols a lot). I suspect the purple sketch is also drawing my eye to it -perhaps if it was the same colour as the original sketch it may not jump out as a much. I also find it a tad unbalanced and I could really feel the round perspective in the original. Maybe if the lighthouse was further back, so we'd feel it's presence but it would not be so overpoweringly prominent. I do like the height, it makes your character look isolated and timid. Maybe just play around a bit more.
Excited though!
-
@Heather-Boyd thanks for the insights Heather! Will see where this design will get us!
-
@Georgios-Christopoulos I also thought after posting that if the lighthouse was further back it would create more depth. The lighthouse would be like, I may be further away but I can STILL SEE YOU lols.

wow! I think the detail is going to win you some points. I can't wait to see this finished, and if I make it to top 16 I hope they pair me with someone else in the first round lol.
-
@K-Flagg Wow thanks Kelly!! To tell you the truth I think the opposite! The detailing might cost me on this one, but I really wanted to go for it as a portfolio piece. Also, your Ship Inn looks beautiful! Good luck!
-
@Georgios-Christopoulos I love where this is going! Are you going to put anything in the open window on the left? It feels like the kitchen, so I'm seeing a big fish, chopped up and ready to cook. Basically, this piece is really pulling me into the world you're creating.
