Hey guys, I created a speed painting video of a creature I just completed (I don't know why I love speed painting videos so much but i do!).

      Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUh8oVZ12Ck

I did this guy/girl after watching one of Aaron Blaise's creature tutorials that I purchased from his site. I'd definitely recommend them if you are at all interested in this kind of thing.

I have a lot of fun doing these and I know I'll do more but I'm not really sure where exactly these would fit in my portfolio.

Not 100% happy with everything on this (I don't think I've quite nailed the blurring effect and I think I may have jumped into the textures before I really had the correct lighting set up--some forms are pretty flat) but it was a learning experience and I'm fine with it overall.

About 1 hour of sketching to get a creature concept I liked and then about 4 hours of painting.

So helpful to see the speed painting of this - really going the extra mile for the forum - wish i could up vote you twice - when you sprayed the pink at 3:43 and lowered the opacity..do you remember what type of layer you were using? Thanks again for posting this

I used a Vivid light layer--kinda hard to tell at 32x speed!

Hey Matt. great piece. I absolutely love Aron Blaise and his work. You've done a brilliant job of interpreting his method. One thing I think is missing are the highlights and possibly a higher contrast light source. Keep up the awesome work. Happy new year.

yeah on most of the stuff I see from him (and from a lot of artists) there is a secondary light source. I played around with that but couldn't get anything that I liked to work.

                  Good catch though!
