David Hohn`s charcoal techniques
-
Hi, everyone! I practice David Hohn`s charcoal technique, its a great technique, really enjoyed. At first I was thinking how to make that beautiful charcoal texture. After trying different ways, I found that the best way was to use a brush (watercolor or graphite or canvas), very large size and paint the canvas.
Thank you!

@Diane-Kond This is pretty cool! I haven't tried it myself yet, but it was great to watch David's technique!
Was this piece done from a photo reference? I would argue that the contrast is really high on this one. The empty dark face is actually looking a little eerie. You may be able to get away with blending in a dark suit against a dark background, but I would like to see features on the face.
Overall, I think its lovely and moody!

It is done from a photo reference. Just feels like a good photo to practice the techniques.
Thank you for your comments. -
Wow! That's a super master copy! You definitely nailed the technique!

@Diane-Kond It's very dramatic - I like it -reminds me of my old black and white photography but I do agree with @Neha-Rawat about the lack of light detail on his face -it doesn't need to be full -just a bit more touch on the features.
