Godzilla vs Lava Creature

=l ... I dunno. I've redrawn her a bazillion times already. I feel like giving in and giving up. There's only a couple days left.
Critiques welcome.
Kick in the butt welcome.
Chocolate welcome.This is not a finished sketch.

@Washu Put nose to grindstone. Get this awesome thing done
What kind of process do you usually need to finish a piece like this? Inks? Paint? Traditional? Digital?
-
@Braden-Hallett Thank you! hahaha I usually paint it digitally but since I feel a time crunch I decided to ink this one. I might go back over it and paint it just because I want to make them glow. XD
Honestly, I hardly draw at all anymore. I'm trying to get back into it, so I have no confidence in my painting skills. My MerMay piece was... weak. Especially compared to one I did 5 years ago. ^^;
I feel as though my art is regressing. Art is -not- like riding a bike, you have to keep practicing or else. I'm kinda embarrassed to share this. haha -
@Washu first off love the character designs theyโre really appealing. Iโd change the camera angle maybe have it a little lower so the monsters look big and intimidating, itโll give a more dynamic feeling to the piece. Maybe put a more strained expression on the lava woman to show itโs a real contest of strength.
I look forward to seeing more of this piece especially with colour
Donโt worry you will get this done, thereโs still time
-
Your certainly not starting from scratch so just keep at it, put the time in and work to where you want to be. Tackle one new lesson at a time and implement it.

Yup! I learned that applies to the piano, too
These kinds of things are a lot easier to relearn than riding a bike though. And the better you get at riding it the less time it takes you to get back to where you left off

@sarahlawrence Thank you! My idea was to show both of them about to laser blast each other! It looks epic in my head. hahaha In color their throats and mouths would be glowing as they charge up.
Also, I don't think I can draw her face from below. I should practice that later. nodding -
@Braden-Hallett Aww thank you.
-
Updated: messing around with the sketch in photoshop to adjust the lava chic's pose. Better?
-
I added foreground buildings and helicopter silhouettes for scale. Thinking about colors and light.
-
@Washu it's coming along great! I can feel the mood of the moment.
-
@Darian Thanks so much!
-
I got the background painted but looks like I wont make the deadline. I paint slooow.
Oh, I left the lineart layer on cause otherwise the characters are weird grey blotches. XD Please excuse the extra lines in the background.

I know You are past 30th, but still hope you finish this piece, great work on it...
-
@MichaelaH Thank you! I will work on it when I'm feeling better. I caught something and have just been sleeping it off. I'm not worried about the contest, because I wanted to paint this for my roommate who's a huge Godzilla nerd. XD He can list off everyone Godzilla has battled!
