Hello from a former art student who goes beginner again
-
Hi there,
I'm so glad I found SVS learn through the podcast! I just signed up to the forum too and it's nice to see how many of you guys are getting better and better at art, it's very inspiring.
I graduated from an art school many years ago (new media/photography), then went to work on movies - which was way less creative than it sounded. A couple of years ago I decided to pick up the brush and get into painting. I spent a lot of time drawing from life, then started painting with watercolors using reference photos.
I focused so much on improving my drawing skills that I neglected the design aspect of picture making. My goal is to be better at design, improve my painting skills and be able to create my own art not just 'copy' reference images.Right now I'm doing the Creative Composition course and I wish I could time travel back to my student years and listen to it back then. So good, so useful!
Here are some of my sketches:
I did a #100headchallenge IG thing last year.
I love drawing animals.I was in the middle of the Creative Composition course when I painted this. I think I will find many things to be changed when I finish the course...
I would appreciate any recommendations about what course to take next. Thank you!

Hello, @nikolett ! Welcome to the forums! I think you find a lot of helpful and supportive folks here. It's miraculously free of a lot of the downsides that a lot of other forums suffer from. I hope you find what you're looking for here!
Regarding classes, there is a "suggested curriculum" that sorta provides a structure to how the classes all go together, but you may find some of the Phase 1 classes a bit repetitive if you've already done the art school thing. I personally just finished the materials for Creative Composition myself (you'll find a thread on here for it--you can post images of your homework if you'd like), and I've moved on to the Painting in Photoshop class. There are a LOT of really good choices--I'd suggest checking some of the intros out and maybe deciding after that. I don't think you can really go wrong, whatever you choose.
Your work is lovely! Can't wait to see what you create!!

Hi @nikolett I just wanted to reiterate what others have said -- beautiful watercolors! I have been trying to learn watercolor painting for the past year (animals and nature scenes) and would love to be able to do what you are doing. I am really looking forward to seeing more of your work on the forum.
