Hi, Soorya here, and I've been timid for too long!
-
Hello all,
I joined the forum a day ago. I'm a huge fan of the podcast, and after signing up here, I am starting to really enjoy the community as well.
I'm in the process of revamping my entire portfolio; this was brought on by some of the advice generously offered by Will, Jake and Lee on their podcast.
On a more personal note: for many years I kept from showing my work, and posting it online was completely out of question. This was unfortunately also linked with the social anxiety I experienced as a young one. I want to change this around really badly, and will be doing everything I can to achieve that.
All of that aside, I'm really excited to be here, and look forward to getting to know everyone!

@animatosoor Nice to meet you Soorya! SVS seems like a very safe and supportive community for sharing work, I think we are in the right place.
-
Welcome! Canβt wait to see your work
-
@animatosoor Welcome! Sharing your work, especially for critiques, may be a little nerve-wracking, so kudos to you. Looking forward to seeing more of your art!

Thank you, everyone! What a lovely community.

Welcome to the forum! A while back we had a thread going about how to indicate whether you want a critique when you post your work and I think the consensus was that people should just feel free to be honest about what they need. I think then to help you get over your anxiety about sharing work, you could post some to the forum and say, βNo critiques please. Just want to share.β Everyone will respect that and it might be a way to begin overcoming your anxieties (with which I am completely sympathetic!) As everyone has said, this is a great community, with very supportive people and itβs a good place to feel safe about showing your work.

@demotlj Thank you for such a thoughtful suggestion. I have already posted one piece asking for critique - and a "brutally honest" one at that - because that is something I've been dealing with better in recent years and I want to continue to grow a thicker skin, so to speak. I enjoy receiving constructive critique! It is always so enriching, and that did happen in that other thread I'd created.
I think for me, a lot of the anxiety was over the fact that I thought it was pointless to share my art, and like it was never good enough to be shared. I made too many comparisons to other artists, and that became crippling.
Thanks once again.

@animatosoor Great to have you with us... definitely share as you feel you comfortable. And ask for what you need. Feel free to ask for "What is working with this piece?" if you need some encouragement.

@theprairiefox More often than not these days, I think I want to hear the negatives so I can improve faster! Hahah but that's a good pointer for those days when we would like that balanced with some praise.
