Which artists do you draw inspiration from?
-
Not sure if this topic has been brought up before, but I wanted to know which artists you turn to for inspiration? I like to look at other artists' work for inspiration, and thought it'd be fun to know what other artists you all follow.
I currently turn to the work of Pascal Campion and Hayao MIyazaki quite frequently.
-
I love Instagram because it has such a great variety of artists and that's primarily where I get my inspiration! A few off the top of my head are @Wolfskulljack_art, @jawcooper, @caitlin_hackett, and @spmlaw
-
@BWoodford I was familiar with jawcooper, but not the others. Just checked them out. Those artists have very detailed driven work!
-
I really love Valeria Docampo, Patrice Barton, Roger Duvoisin, and Vanessa Newton. Pascal Champion is awesome. I love Oliver Jeffers and Jon Klassen too. And of course our ridiculously hardworking and talented teachers, I could go on and on. I went into swoon mode when I realized the Lee White was joining SVS. LOL

Here is a link to Patrice Barton's work. http://patricebarton.com/ The way she captures human emotions through gesture and expression is really amazing. She makes it look effortless, I find it so charming.
And here is Valeria Docampo http://valeriadocampo.com/infantil3.html Stunning!!

@Charlie-Eve-Ryan Oh yeah, I forgot about Oliver Jeffers' stuff. Such a creative mind. I had to look up all the other artists. Really digging Jon Klassen's aesthetic. It's so interesting how the things that resonate with us have a tendency to creep into our own work. If someone had mentioned your name alongside those other artists you just mentioned, I wouldn't have thought it was out of place!

@shinjifujioka Thanks, they really do seep in a bit at a time! What is that saying, "Consume good art to make good art." Many times I fall flat but it does help to study people you admire. @Lee-White just introduced me to one of his faves, Tadahiro Uesugi, his work is really outrageously gorgeous. He said it would help me with my environment work since I have a tendency to shy away from anything too elaborate. Another one Lee suggested was Ezra Jack Keats, his use of basic shape and interesting patterns to build environments is wonderful.

@Charlie-Eve-Ryan Both artists are phenomenal! But Uesugi's work really resonated with me. Holy crap his stuff is beautiful. Like HOLY CRAP. I'll for sure be referencing and studying his stuff! Thanks for letting me know about him!
And I'm glad you like Helmet & Hound
-
@Charlie-Eve-Ryan I'm posting again just to show how excited I am to have been introduced to his work. HOLY CRAP.

@shinjifujioka Hahaha nice!! Thank Lee, I felt the same way when he showed me him!! Being introduced to amazing artists to study makes me giddy!!
-
@shinjifujioka Yes that one is gorgeous!
His sense of space and use of white vs deep darks is amazing. He really goes for it contrast wise!!

@Charlie-Eve-Ryan Do you know of a larger size of that image? I want to see more of the details.
-
@shinjifujioka I have no clue on that, but here is the site where the pin originated from. She has a bunch of his work there.
