Grainy texture in photoshop
-
Hello all, Im sure this as been asked MANY times before, Ive done a search but cant find anything and and Im going to rewatch 'Drawing with Digital Pencils' but I cant seem to find the brush that gives that beautiful grainy texture that will has in his work. I want it to look like its fresh off a page not photoshop so can you guys recommend a brush that does this?
Im using Kyles hard pencil at the moment but for doing bigger areas its too hard.
Thank you for helping a newbie out x -
@rachelpenman hi! I think Will made his own brush. Don’t be stomped if you brush does not match his, it’s your skills that makes a piece great not your tools. My suggestion is that you fiddle with your soft brush and add texture to it. I think that’s how Will made his. I hope this helps.

@rachelpenman haha! My computer was hiding the last 3 courses one of which is custom brushes!!
Please ignore this thread but if you DO have any recommendations throw them my way as I LOVE to learn!

@nyrrylcadiz thank you for that, appreciate it! I’ve just found the custom brushes course so will now go fiddle with my brushes!

This is for the whole image, and not brushed. But when I want texture, I often just have desaturated texture layer above the image and set the layer blend mode to Overlay. I work with GIMP, but I think you can do the same thing in Photoshop. Not sure if they have the same formula for "Overlay" though. Here's an example of what it can look like.
For the actual texture layer, I either find some good texture images online (that I'm allowed to use) or create my own textures with render filters and the like.
