Personal drawing-a-day challenge
-
I decided to do a drawing-a-day challenge for November with the theme "Guinea pigs" (Piigvember). I picked guinea pigs because they're something I like, and I've never done a drawing-a-day challenge before, and I figured I'd be more likely to complete it if I picked something that I liked for the first one.
Critiques are welcome.
Here are my first three days:
Piigvember day 1: Zeus
Piigvember day 2: Apollo
Piigvember day 3: Banzai

Good for you @TwiggyT ! They all look super cute so far. Keep up that momentum
-
@Art-of-B Thank you!

Day 4: Snicker
-
These are really adorable! I especially love Zeus and Snicker. This is a great project, I can't wait to see what you come up with next. Are you working from a list you made of subjects before hand or are you making it up the day of?
-
@jeanebean The first seven days will be the guinea pigs I've owned, and for those I'm just doing drawings based on their individual personalities. After that I'm going to draw my niece and nephew's guinea pigs, and it looks like I have a cousin that wants theirs drawn. After that I might run an Instagram contest or something to get other pigs to draw. If not I'll just make some up. I was thinking of doing some guinea pig-themed merchandise, so this will hopefully help with promotion. I've notice that of all the small pet communities I've been a part of, the guinea pig community has some of the most rabid consumers. After that are hedgehog people, and chinchilla people just don't care.

@twiggyt best of luck with your challenge. So far they are really cute.

@Chip-Valecek Thank you!
Piigvember Day 5: Nugget was a fierce warrior, ie, she bit people a lot.
-
Good job! These all are looking pretty good. Just a few criticisms - the perspective on the shield strap feels a little off, it's a little too round. Also shields usually have a handle as well. Google it. As well the feet and the shadows aren't quite right. The shadow would be larger or have less clearance, if you know what I mean. Personally I rather like Day 4 : Snicker. Feels like something out of a Disney movie, in a good way.
-
Piigvember Day 6: Bubbles dressed as her namesake.
-
Piigvember Day 7: Panda appreciates comfort (and timely servings of veggies).
-
Piigvember Day 8: Sarah Surfs
-
Piigvember Day 9: Sugar goes fishing.
-
Piigvember Day 10: Windy
-
Day 11: Rememberance
This is really rough, but I need a mental health day. I just wanted to get something done.
-
@twiggyt I love these! They all have so much character and energy.
-
@amandar Thank you! I'm glad you like them!
Piigvember Day 12: Sushi!
-
Day 13: The Doctor
-
@twiggyt I am super impressed with your commitment to a drawing of this magnitude per day! 5 (nugget), 10 (windy), and 11 (remembrance) are my favorites. What they share in common to my eye is a greater depth of character. I can imagine and perhaps even more importantly I have more curiosity about their story. Iām looking forward to seeing more.

Hi, Susan! Thanks for your comment. That's a good way to analyze these. I hadn't thought about Nugget having more depth; she was simply the only mean guinea pig I've ever had. I agree with Windy and Rememberance, though; I was a little sad that more people didn't comment on those on my social media. Especially Windy -- I really liked that one myself.
