Hey everyone!
I thought I would say hello I'm a little nervous as I have never been part of
a forum before. My name is Melina Healy I'm 25 years old and I'm hoping to gain a better knowledge about illustration and publishing as I'm hoping to becoming a writer and illustrator of children's books. I started up in university about 6 months ago but I've been really struggling as the course limited my creative freedom which is really important to me. After listening to Will Terry's youtube videos and the 3 point perspective podcast it all led me to here. I'm originally from London UK, but moved to Yorkshire UK about 5/6 years ago. I have always been a keen drawer, but about 6 months ago I took up digital art, I'm still a little rusty but I'm trying to learn as much as I can. I am currently working on a project now about a witch named Agatha. I'm super excited to be a part of this community -
Welcome to the forums! Looking forward to more of your art

Hey! Nice to E-meet you Thank you so much, I'll look forward to seeing yours too!

I like the limited pallette. I wish I knew more about the children's book scene but if you're listening to the podcast then you pretty much know everything I know.
I think as far as digital painting goes you're definitely on the right track. Some of the hair strokes look a bit overdone, but the picture holds very well overall. I look forward to seeing more of your progress.

Welcome Melina! So you are taking art courses at a university? Nice! Yea, when I was in art school, I didn't have much creative freedom at first, but when you take the higher level courses, typically you will have much more creative freedom.
Love your art! Looking forward to seeing more!
Good Luck! -

@nyrrylcadiz Hey! Thank you very much! I was taking illustration at university but I’ve found it to be very ridgid in creative freedom. Love drawing character and I’m currently watching videos and reading up on perspective and environment design. I love the idea of showing the worlds that my character live in. What is it that interests you? ️️

@squirrelsize Hey thank you very much! I’m glad to hear that it gets better haha! Wondering about delaying it for a little while to work on some of my own projects. Thank you very much! I’ll look forward to seeing yours!! ️

@melinahealy i haven’t been to art school but I guess that’s just the way it is starting out. They’re trying to teach you all the basics so they don’t want you to go all stylistic that early in the process. From what I’ve heard that rigidity will loosen up once you get to the higher years and your instrcutors will leave you more to your own devices, to find your own voice so to speak. I wish you all the best in your schooling. Just hang in there! Things will get better.
