Side show babies DUMMY wip
-
I've been working on a book dummy, I have a decent draft of the text done, and a good start on the sketches. But hitting a brick wall with it, and am dealing with those voices that are saying that its all crap. So I'm going to work on one or two of the layouts to see if I can respark my excitement for it.

@stringfellowart I think it is a good start. I really love the background colours and how it is put down painterly. The font of the text is really nice, maybe make it a bit bigger. Is there something going in between the two text, if not maybe move them closer but still have breathing space, a place for the eye to rest, negative space.
I just caught this now but perhaps if you had more than one incubator bed in your illustration it would emphasis his significant donation.

I was watching this youtube video and thought of you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP7geXzJ864 Especially the artist at the 12:30 mark, the next artist after her, and the artist at the 18:00 mark. They talk a little bit about fear and feeling too precious about their art and how it holds them back. They just talk for a couple of minutes each, but I think what they say is important. It's ok if not all of your projects are amazing. Get them done and out of your system so you can explore other things. Don't be afraid to fail, you'll be "failing upwards" as one of them puts it.
I hope you can gain some motivation for project. It looks really appealing. The font feels like a good pairing with your illustrations. Wishing you well.

@tessaw This is great! Thanks for sharing it with me. So true. I've been really trying to push through the self doubt/negative voices and just constantly showing up for the art, like a real job. I'm very bad about following through to the end. So that is the area that I really need to work at if I want to get my dream jobs.
@Heather-Boyd Good catch! I also flipped the layout around I think the page turn works better this way.

Slow progess. -
@stringfellowart I think the flip works great. Love the characters :).
I wouldn't offset the text though and I feel the lower paragraph is too close to the character's elbow.
Look forward to see the end result -
@stringfellowart looking good. What medium are you using? Photoshop? other painter program?
-
@adriana-bergstrom Mostly Photoshop, though the background was roughed in in ArtRage. I have a lot of custom brushes I made using my own hand drawn textures to give it a more traditional feel.

@stringfellowart quite lovely textures!
