Same here. My schedule is out of wack! I am loving that line work of yours that has Pete's Dragon in it.
I'm taking a schoolism class, Nathan Fowkes Color and Light. It's taking me FOREVER to get assignment 3 done. I think I started this class several months ago. Sigh.
-
I'm trying to get a strong portfolio together. I need to add some spot and vignette illustrations, so this is my latest addition:
-
@burvantill What do you think of Procreate so far? I hear you about summer being hard on one's schedule.
@TessaW Your project for that class looks really good so far -- the autumn one is so atmospheric.
-
I have been trying to focus on basics - using shapes to build characters as well as trying to learn Procreate. I have been doing a lot of sketches in my sketchbook ( see if you can spot when I got distracted by watching Shrek ) But am also trying to make myself bring something to the best finish I can with my current skill. So frustrating when I canβt see any improvement though!
-
@tessaw that looks like fun! The alien light makes me laugh!
-
@twiggyt I really like Procreate. I've been using it as a quick sketch pad for capturing real life light. A subject that I feel I need improvement. I just use a $10 stylus from target. The apple pen doesn't work with my gen iPad. But I'm doing just fine without it. I figure by the time I finally FINISH the Draw 50 things (the line art with Elliot) challenge I should know how to do everything that the app offers. It's a great app for $10.
-
@missmushy I hear you! Improvement will happen, it'll sneak right up on ya. Have fun and keep practicing. I like the full page of shape characters! I can totally see you turning some of those into a developed character.
-
@missmushy Super quick as I run through the studio. . I watched a short YouTube by @Jake-Parker that was too good not to share. Itβs relevant.

@burvantill hey thanks! Yep watched that one - gave me some hope .
-
@burvantill Thanks for posting this! It was excellent!
-
This is what I'm working on right now it is part of a three part series. I also have two book projects on the go.
-
Today I have been sketching out ideas for the "hidden" assignment and working on finishing a painting of Robert Pattinson to add to my portfolio. Later on I have to finish off some caricature commission (fortunately those are a lot simpler)
EDIT: Calling it finished

@gary-wilkinson LOVE that HAIR!!!
-
@gary-wilkinson Love it!!!

I did it! I sat down and actually wrote out a children's book that I have been stewing over for months now. I listened to a YouTube by @Jake-Parker, "You Need a Product not a Project", and he got me going. "Go do it! Go make that children's book." "...I don't know what they're waiting for, you could illustrate your book TODAY..." Man I'm glad I started listening to the 3Point perspective podcast. Since the first one, I have been absorbing as much stuff from those three guys as I can. LIKE A SPONGE! lol.
I also finished this little illustration for a jimbobdrawingshow Instagram prompt today, fat nomad.
-
@burvantill that is AWESOME!! Sounds like you are rocking it!! Also, I love this illustration
-
@gary-wilkinson That is fantastic! I find hair really tough but you've clearly nailed it. Any tips?
-
@tessaw Are you doing the critiqued sessions? These paintings look great by the way!
-
@ians just build the hair up slowly. Make sure your base layer is blocked in well and then build up from that (dark to light is the best way to go). Hair takes a lot of time, but it's a pretty simple process that just requires a bit of a grind
-
@ians Thanks! No, I just have the subscription.
