      Hello everyone!

I am Patricia (as my username says) and this is my first time in the forums. I have been doing some courses in SVS for more than a year now and I love them. However, I never posted in the forums before because I am very shy and I feel intimidated by all the great work. I love coming here and see your WIPs and final pieces and they are so beautiful... Anyway, I was encouraged by @lenwen (thank you so much!) to come to the forums and I decided that it was time for me to take the step and start showing what I do with you. I usually do the sketches for the monthly challenges but I never go further than that, and never show (anywhere) because I think they are not "good enough". So for the mushroom village challenge, I probably won't participate either but...I wanted to share my sketch, very rough and simple, as my first step to overcome my shyness.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this :).

Welcome! I'm glad you decided to overcome your fears and post on the forums. I'd encourage you to finish this piece as well. Start gaining that experience! It will get you that mileage you need for improvement.

Loving the sketch so far. I like how you contained it to a central composition.

@tessaw thank you very much for your words. That is why I thought this was a big step. I really want to improve and the feedback will be so helpful! I will keep working on it...not sure I will have it finished by the end of the challenge though. Thank you for your encouragement!

Welcome, Patricia. There are so many great artists on this forum that I too, am often intimidated knowing I can't hold a candle to most of them but I try to keep in mind something Jake Parker said (and I may be mangling this quote:) "Don't compare yourself to others; compare yourself to yourself yesterday." I think the composition of your sketch is really nice and you should develop it even if you can't finish it by the end of the month. I'd love to see where you take it.

@patricia-alvarez Welcome! Glad you're here. I also have trouble with posting stuff. I've been an SVS subscriber for a year, have been active on the forums and am taking my second live class. I've STILL only posted 2 things on the forums! Ha! Ha! (Not sure why that is because EVERYONE here is super nice and supportive) We work through that shyness at our own pace and you've taken a great step. I love your village. The shapes are really pleasing and it's adorable.

I'm happy you decided to post. It's fun to see everyone's work, no matter what level it is--plus, it's great to see people improve! I don't think you need to worry about that anyway, since your sketch is just as good as many of the others posted here. I'm a beginner, too, and have seen my work improve from help here on the forums. I hope you are able to work on this some more. I'm interested to see more of it!

@demotlj thank you so much for your comment. It is true, it try not to compare myself with others but sometimes it is different. I know all have different backgrounds, practice and style. I have improved a lot in one year. I am really happy with it. I will keep working in the sketch to see to where I can go with it. Thanks!

@dottyp thank you! I would love to have it on time but realistically...I don´t think so. But you are right. It is good practice. I think what made me to post it here was that this way I am kind of making a commitment of, at least, work on it a little further, even if I don´t finish it ;).

@miriam hi! I hope I can have more to show. I definitely want to work more on it. I have improved a lot in a year of lessons. I am sure that posting and having feedback will only be good for my learning. Thank you!

The sketch is clear and good. I think it's a good start to work with more details.
