Third Thursday Start
-
I missed Third Thursday last month, so I really want to get something together for this month.
My main idea was that I wanted to have some sort of flying contraption that required ostrich to pedal it, because to me one of the main features of an ostrich is their strong legs, and I wanted that to be connected to how it was able to fly.
Here is my thumbnail, which I enlarged and then duplicated to get some more details in. Is there anything cool I could add to my flying machine? Any animals that might fit into the composition? Along with anything else you might think of. Thanks in advance!

What if the main character was really straining like you would be pedaling a bicycle up a steep hill. Perhaps looking back at the animals? I think your airplane looks good in the sketch along with all the animals. Nice start!
-
Thats a good idea. Maybe just having the head thrust forward more would help with that gesture. I'm starting to think of adding some sort of propeller to the front of the bike thing too.
-
@Sarah-LuAnn That is a fun idea!
-
I like this very much and Rob's idea of straining up the steep hill. Perhaps you could add some dog type relative that would be running right beside the wheel. Can't wait to see what you do with this!
-
nice idea and I really like those animals going after Astrid!

Hi Sarah, Good lift off, go for the best!

Ok, did a bit more work on this. I decided that my aircraft was just too normal and boring, so I decided to do some inventing. Still in loose sketch stage here.
I feel like it is much less boring now. As I said, this is still in loose sketch phase, but I have a question--I have the shadow below, and you can see that the front wheel is off the ground because it isn't touching the shadow. Can you think of any other way to show that it is starting to get off the ground? I want to make it clear that it is at least starting to fly.
-
I guess I may as well show this here too, since I made it-- I thought at first what I wasn't liking about my first aircraft was that I couldn't get the perspective to work right, so I tried putting together a version in sketchup I could use as perspective reference. And then I decided it was still boring and scrapped it. So I'm letting you all see the scrapped sketchup plane, so I don't feel like my time was completely wasted
-
@Sarah-LuAnn I can easily tell from the wheel not touching the shadow, I could tell from your first drawing that it was lifting off the ground. I think it will be even more obvious once you add color and the ground is one color and the background another. Just my opinion. It really is looking good!

I like this much better with new aircraft, it adds more action to the piece.

Thanks! I think Its a lot better too. And I'm actually excited to work on it now, which is always a good thing. I'm really gonna have to budget my time with doing this, Inktober, AND work next month.
