INDEPENDENT PROMPT work in progress
-
I got the idea to use an independent animal, then used @Lee-White and David Hohn's mind mapping and thumbnails (awesome techniques taught in Turbocharging your creativity) and came up with this titled "house kitty" and he is in a Milk Bath.
Would love your critiques, suggestions so I can implement before I go to finals-Thanks! -
I like the thumbnail, but I am not sure I get the concept or how it relates to independence....can you explain how you developed the idea?
-
@smceccarelli Thanks Simona. If you didn't get it immediately I should probably rethink it. I choose Tiger as they are independent animals, she is alone and the phone is off the hook not wanting to be around others (non dependent). The bathroom is very girly showing she lives alone. The bath symbolizes wanting to get away from everyone and everything. Title is "House Kitty" a term for those introverts that want to be home and not with people.
-
I can see where you are going in connecting it to independence, but I don't think that comes to mind when I see the sketch. I think of relaxation, pampering and enjoying the small things in life.
All in all, I think this could be a really great illustration! Love the mood you've created and I think you should definitely take this to a finish.

It's a nice idea and I like the feel of this quite a lot. It has a classic quality to it. Would the final piece be loose and dreamy like this or do all your roughs look this way?
-
@tessw Thank you!
-
@bnewman all my roughs tend to be like this, then I finish in watercolor! here is a rough and a finish

the finish

@lmrush I agree with @TessW , I think more of relaxing and enjoying a moment of piece rather than independence. Still nice and worth bringing forward - I think the contrast between the dark tiled floor and the white bathtub could give a really nice effect.
-
@smceccarelli Thanks for your help, I will probably take this to finish down the road and go back to the drawing board with independent
-
@lmrush Wow! This is great work!
-
@bnewman thank you although I still have a long way to go
-
So I won't be submitting this for independent, as most people saw it as pampered or relaxing, but I did get more experience pushing my values, I am not really thrilled with it but happy to be painting and pushing forward.
-
Definitely makes me smile! Love the concept!

@lmrush that is very cool. However it might look even better if you get it closer to composition from your sketch. I find it a bit disturbing that the curtain is so big, unless you are planing to dedecorate it more...?
-
Thanks. My intention was to place text t on the curtain@aska

I really like it!, Watercolors?
-
@jose-ramos Yes watercolor
-
@lmrush Well you might not be submitting for 'Independent' but It's a GREAT illustration AND you learned from it. I think the SVS guys would be proud of that!

@katrina-fowler Thank you!
