Work in progress. New style I'm experimenting with. Feedback much appreciated.

I'm working the illustrations for a story book. I'd really appreciate comments from anyone that has any ideas. This is a new style that has developed over the past couple of years and it's the first time I have applied it to children's book work. I'll be posting work all through this week. Thanks!!

I love how expressive your faces are. Really great touch.
Your style is cool! I like the layering of the hills in the first image in particular. I'd love to see you use that technique to give your illustrations even more depth. I realize that the images are intentionally flat and graphic but I think it could be fun to play with stacking some of those elements to give a suggestion of 3 dimensionality. Just a thought!

@mcucchi Hey mcucchi. The layering is definitely something I will experiment with more, it does help with the 3 dimensionality doesn't it. I see what you mean, if I can stack some elements in the page it should help draw the viewer into the illustration and the world of the character too. Thanks so much. I will be thinking about this as I continue to finish the pages! Ace.

@Judy-Elizabeth-Wilson Thes are really well done - very polished - i would buy a book like this - the girl will be imagining herself inside of different Mythological tales perhaps? I am reading the flatness of the classic sculptures as being filtered through the little girl's imagination - The Lernaean Hydra piece is my favorite i think - for critique i would just say that there is something about the treatment of the shadows that seems too crisp or uniform in tone....something that makes me wonder if the shadows are important somehow - maybe that is the intent though - these are really nice illustrations!

@Kevin-Longueil Hey Kevin. The sculptures are in a wax work museum and it's the first time the little girl has seen something like this - she is a bit overwhelmed. The flatness of the sculptures is to create a gently uncomfortable feeling - as though all the eyes are on her. The shadows that surround her are part of an almost ominous feeling but hopefully not too much. I love your story idea. That's not the story but it's a great start of an idea. Thanks so much Kevin I really appreciate your comments. It's great to hear what other artists point of view are!

@Judy-Elizabeth-Wilson @Kevin-Longueil Also Kevin there is a reason why the little girl is feeling uneasy in the waxwork museum. As I post the other pictures I hope you can figure it out. Thanks!

Love your drawing/design style, the characters are so cute. I just wish there was a little more contrast. It seems like that is part of your style, but a little more would be nice.
-
@holleywilliamson Hey Holley. Contrast has been an issue for me with this project. It's something I'm in the process of figuring out especially with this new technique. I will certainly keep it in mind when I go over the images. The other thing is the contrast will help with the depth aswell which @mcucchi mentioned. Thanks so much!
