12 days of Christmas challenge
-
I saw this challenge on IG and thought I’d give it a try. Anyone want to join me? If so here is the list. If you want you can also post your work on this thread.
Here is my first entry:
-
@chrisaakins This sounds really fun. I'm going to be traveling a bit with the holidays but I'll see what I can come up with, even if a few are kinda "sketchy". Thanks for the invite/idea, it'll be a good way to get me back into drawing. I worked on three small books in a row and got burnt but it's been over 2 weeks now so time to jump back into it! Love the combo of paint and photo textures in your first one!
-
@Larue yes! Join in in! It’s always fun to do challenges together!
Here is day two: Two turtle doves
-
@chrisaakins it look so fun! The dove trying to fly away with it while the other is offering something to the dove. And the orange mouse grabbing the attention. Great job getting that done in a day! I'm way too slow for these challenges.
-
@Chantal-Goetheer thank you so much! This is two days for each picture. It gives you a little more time.
-
Nice to see you around the forum again @chrisaakins these are looking great! I don’t have any time for challenges at the moment, unfortunately, maybe I can find one after the holidays
-
@chrisaakins Fantastic
-
@Asyas_illos Yeah, me either! But wow it's inspiring nonetheless... So therefore I'll vicariously dream through your work @chrisaakins, and yes it's good to have you back!
-
Just saying, waiting to see how you draw the next one! OMG just spent a few hours binge watching Loish, love her, and drawing... yeah it's so amazing to discover ways to create mood through color and seeing in real time how cool it is to create from this space I'm in So fun
-
@Larue Well, atleast I got to a sketch! Need to work on a foreground and background though.
-
@Larue I love it! No rules say you can’t sketch them and finish them later
-
@Larue so cute!

Here is day 3 Sugar Plum Fairy
-
@chrisaakins These are looking great! I wish i had time to participate in this, but December is always so crazy for me. But I'm enjoying following along with your illustrations! Thanks for sharing.
-
@chrisaakins Superb!!

Hey guys,
I saw this fun challenge on Friday. Here's my first piece. I decided to just stick with the first post and it's themes. I also wanted them to have the appearance of a kids book. What do you guys think? I'm open to your thoughts and opinions, especially constructive criticism(s).
-
@Rafael-Morales-III I love the idea of making your images look like a kid's book! How did you get that effect? Are you using mockup?
-
@kirsten-mcg Thank Kirsten, I did not use a "mock-up" per say. I Just added rectangles with linear gradients to create this effect. I went ahead and tried my best to explain my process to mimic the book illusion. I hope I was able to clearly explain it.
-
@chrisaakins Thanks for starting this thread.
Work in progress! Slightly nervous about posting this as I'm new to Photoshop so experimenting with that plus I'm trying to be open to different styles and just see where it takes me. It is a bit weird but it's my take on the Sugar Plum Fairy - sugar plum fairy relaxing on a bed of sugar plums heavily coated in sugar which is spun from her hair and hand. That was the idea anyway - what's in my head is not coming out onto the screen a fair bit of the time. -
Here is Holiday Post.
