Hello from a Small Town
-
Hey guys! My name is Katie (or Kat) and I live in a small farm town in Indiana. I'm 33 and have basically done art my whole life as a hobby. I went to school for Fashion and decided that illustration is more my STYLE (see what I did there?)... I am a wife to a soccer coach and a momma of 2 littles that keep me super busy. I thought about taking classes in my "free time"... Found out I don't actually have any free time so I rearranged life, found help, and am dedicating 3 days a week towards these classes. Some other creative outlets I enjoy- woodworking, leather working, quilting, painting, jewelry making. I took quite the hiadus from drawing so I am here to freshen up the few skills I have and learn a whole lot of new ones. I do not have any social media or a website. Trying to live my best Ron Swanson life off the grid and loving it for now. I will most likely change that once I feel like showing my work to the world. I have written my first childrens book manuscript and decided instead of hiring an illustrator, I would just learn to do it myself. So here I am. Nice to meet you all.

I came on here to write my own introduction and ours could be identical! It's encouraging to hear from another stay-at-home mom turning a love of art/children's books into a career. I've been trying to take classes in my "abundance" of free time too. Best of luck to you!

@katsuds Welcome! I'm 37 and also have two littles, time is always flying away it seems. Good for you that you managed to make time in your week to do this and to work on illustrating your own story! Love to see some of your work.

@katsuds Welcome Kat!

Welcome Kat!

@katsuds hi Kat, welcome! Great to hear you've jumped into learning again. Looking forward to seeing your work!

@katsuds Hi Kat! Always nice to have another mom in the forums. I have 5 kids. We’re a little league family. I know all about that sports/ kid juggle. Thankfully were in the off season now. Its a lot to try and fit in art and writing, but so so worth it.

@Chantal-Goetheer thank you!! I will definitely post some now that I have a bit more time. I have been drawing the monthly prompts for critique arena but I have yet to finish one. Hoping that will change soon and I can post in there. I basically get them sketched out and then never get them rendered. Fingers crossed for completed projects. lol

@beccabee_draws Thanks so much! nice to meet you all

@beccabee_draws Thank you! I appreciate the welcome.
-
@MarcRobinson Thanks. Hoping to post in the critique arena sometime soon. I'm loving checking out everyone's art though. So much talent.
-
@Pamela-Fraley Oh my goodness, YES! The sports juggle is a whole world of its own. 5 kids definitely makes you super mom. That is awesome. Love having so many parents in here working towards their goals. It's inspiring for sure. Thanks for the welcome.
-
Hello! I'm new here too!
-
@katsuds go for it!! and post your work in progress. That's a good incentive to try and finish for me even though it is a struggle with time.
-
@katsuds Welcome! That's great you found a way to carve out time for your art! I too am a mom though my littles are grown up! It will be so good to get to know you This is a really cool community, I have personally learned alot since I joined last year and love the kindness, constructive feedback and genuine support! It's golden when you are trying to improve your skills.
-
@Pamela-Fraley WOW 5 kids does put you in SuperMom category... Good for you! I thought my 3 was alot... we lived in Football territory. Good times and so many memories! Ahhhh I do miss it sometimes, yet I am super grateful for the time I have now to work on my art.
-
@ArtistErin @katsuds Haha! I don’t know about “super mom.” But, they sure are a lot of fun. I wouldn’t have actually known what I wanted to be “when I grew up” if it weren’t for my kids. So, it ‘s worth it. And honestly after getting outnumbered with the third kid, having a couple more isn’t too bad.
I am very thankful for any moment I get to work on my craft though. You gotta have something to work on that doesn’t get undone immediately. -
-
Welcome @katsuds! Don’t hesitate to share your work with this amazing community of artists.
I’m a family man and very late to Art, having just recently picking it back up from my childhood.
