DeviantArt?

Is anyone on Deviant Art? I made an account a couple days ago just to see if I like the format and the community. Instagram is getting weird lately with the “reels only” algorithms. I’m missing posts from people I want to see because they’re only posting pictures of their work… which is all I care about. I’m not sure how I feel about DeviantArt though. I like how people can organize their art, but of the 3 people who have said hi to me so far, two of them legitimately seemed to be hitting on me. ew.
Is there another place where people are at? Discord? Somewhere else? I’m not closing my Instagram. I just want to see Art from people I follow. And maybe be part of a group. I know Discord and DeviantArt both do groups. -
@pamela-fraley I'd not seen the new design.....it looks much nicer than it did. It used to have some very questionable content and characters hanging around....I'll have to look around and see if that's changed.

@pamela-fraley That is interesting, my experience on IG is so different. My feed is still purely art and for me it works ok to just ignore the reels hype. * Knocking on wood here ^^
I started on Deviant Art but I never grew into it. Maybe if you find the right community there. I personally would not recommend it. For showing and viewing art Artstation is way better. For finding a great community - well I have the same problem. I know a lot of discords and some are really nice but either they are so big it is hard to find 'your' group or it is to small and no one on. And I havn't found one for children's illustrations yet.
SVS doesn't have a discord, right? Besides the one for the CBP course. I think that would be great, was this discussed before with the SVS people?

I’ve been feeling hesitancy to post at all, with how many people are stealing art. I find that the reels get traction on more forums than just insta, so I tried doing a short blip while I was drawing and got way more interaction than other posts. I don’t feel unsafe in this forum, sharing, but insta and Facebook have definitely been feeling rather icky lately.

@holumpa maybe I’ll try Art Station. I tried searching the groups on DeviantArt and didn’t see an SVS group. I don’t have a discord.
-
@angelinakizz definitely! I have been putting a watermark on my illustrations lately. I haven’t done it for my sketches, but it is a little scary how easily people steal art.
-
@randarrington I really like how people can organize their galleries. But, yea. I’ve already seen a lot of sketchy stuff and had some unsavory interactions. I opened my account a day ago and I’m ready to shut it down.

@Pamela-Fraley i was on deviant art in my teenager years and i liked it, but at some point i thought i was only seeing big sexy women drawings and nothing else. I'm not against it i just wanted to see Concept Art and Character Designs... and everytime i visited the page i had the feeling i only see boobs.
Although i followed a lot of talented people and still looked at their new work. But most of the people i followed started to update regulary on Instagram. So at some point i just stoped to use deviantart. It had a bit of the feeling it died like tumblr. I'm suprised how many people stil use it.
@holumpa I don't see any difference between this forum and a discord.
It was nice for the CBP but i wouldn't see any point in uploading here and there and discussing and talking with the same people in an extra discord.Maybe im Wrong? i musst admit i don‘t know too much about the dicsord world. But i left most of the discords i have been a member of it's just to many platforms.
The only thing that would come in handy would be the the streaming and video call i guess...it would actually be nice to meet some people here even though my spoken english isn't to good but also not too bad though -
@von_nimmermehr The Discord has voice channels. Of course not everyone wants to use these, I am pretty shy myself. But I pretty sure it makes a huge difference to connect to people.
If you just casually hang out from time to time you discuss a lot more daily artist life topics as if you would have to write a whole topic about it.
So if enough people use teh voice channels and if there are events where the community has a reason to gather there, it is a pretty strong tool to connect more and build actual friendships. -
@von_nimmermehr yeah I deactivated my account last night. Didn’t take long for me to realize it wasn’t where I wanted to be. I’m trying to spend more time creating and less time on social media but maybe I just need to let it be what it is. I’ll keep posting Instagram and work on building my own website. If I have some free time I might check out art station.
