Yeti cottage WIP
-
My goal this year is to participate in all the contests and work on improving my art and ultimately decided where I want to go with it... so here we are after any sketches this is the start for my final on my yeti home. Please ignore my place holders and let me know what you think could be improved
-
@ambiirae like your color palette! It's nice so far. Will you be adding more details to show off your yetis personality?
-
@KaraDaniel yes! I still need to add personal effects Iโm just having a hard time choosing lol.
However my husband said it looked more like a barn than a cottage so I added a roof above the door plus made the house shorter length wise. Also itโs going to be snow covered which is why i havenโt touched the roof or worried too much about the bottom edges.
-
@ambiirae cute! You could add a dormer window to the roof as well if it still feels like a barn. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
-
So I ended up adding the little windows up top and finally got the snow on the roof now adding the glow to the windows before I decide how I am going to make my final decision on which Personal effects to add.
-
@ambiirae cute! Love the dormers. So my builder/architectural brain kicked in when looking a the chimney and fireplace...they don't quite line up...if the fireplace is on the back wall, (opposite front door) as it seems to be through the window, then the chimney would be in the back. It is currently cutting though the middle of the house. By "drawing through" and continuing the line from the fireplace inside it should give a better positioning for the chimney top.
-
@KaraDaniel me and my husband were just discussing that!! The prior night I couldnโt figure out what was so wrong with it and it was driving me nuts til I just gave up but that is totally the issue!
-
@ambiirae it's totally understandable! I use to build miniature houses so chimney placement amongst other architectural things were burnt into my brain lol. I've seen funny things like this, especially during this prompt, in a few posts (windows with chimneys right behind, chimneys right in your way if you open the front door, chimneys coming out the edge of roof where there is no interior) it's all good can't wait to see all the personal items you include for your yeti.
-
@KaraDaniel does this look better?
-
@ambiirae yes
-
Really need some help with the interior of this home... should I scrap the fire place and curtains and just make the window glows like the rest? I just canโt find a color combo that I like or that makes the inside look good
-
@ambiirae I really like your overall colors. May I make a suggestion that might change your experience with that window?
That side of the house is in shadow compared to the front, except for the window frames. If you bring their value down, the whole window itself, with the interior, may make more sense and look good.
Just a thought! -
I think its looking good! Couple points I can think of:
-
I think you should keep the fireplace, and if you do, lean into it a little more and make it create some more interesting lighting that can be seen from the window. I think that can help draw the viewer in.
-
I'd try experimenting with the snow a little bit. I'm terribly guilty at overworking snow, so I'm talking to myself as much as anyone else. The snow has so many more painting strokes and texture differences than the house for example. Maybe reduce it to one tone, then give it shadow, then give it light and step back and look at it. I always feel like doing less to snow seems to make it look more realistic in the end

@jdubz @KayPotter thank you for the feedback!
Okay I made some adjustments to the window area and the interior colors does this help any?
-
Also a version with simplified snow

Any last minute revisions or suggestions? Other wise I feel that I am about set on this one ๏ธ
