Feedback on "Deer World"?
-
This was such a fascinating process to go through! I did the assignment from one of the creative composition courses (or was it the creative storytelling?) - y'know, the one where you trace awesome art work as thumbnails, then copy them by sight, then make your own version using the same techniques - this one:
Here's the outcome! I'm definitely going to try to lease out the rights to holiday cards (at the VERY least). I'd love some feedback if you have it! But also, I think I'm finding my KidsBook style~
Hope you're well and keeping busy!
Best,

@TheArtBard looking great!

@TheArtBard This is really neat!
I love the almost monochromatic color scheme with the bright punch of some orangey tones. May I ask if you had a backstory for the piece? Is the fire or deer a kind of elemental spirit?

@Jacy13 Thanks for the feedback and question Jacy!
There wasn't any real story behind the illustration. I was mostly just trying to add interest and balance. If the candle had been the only light source then the deer would have been lost in the monochrome. By adding the fire (which was a spur of the moment decision), it opened up the image and allowed the eyes to move between the deer and the candle. Having two sources of warm light on the top and bottom points of interests adds balance.
That was my rationale at least. Hahaha, there goes the mystery
Thanks again Jacy!Hope you're well and keeping busy!
All the best,

This is very beautiful! I love the color scheme. The only thing that sticks out to me is the tangent where the left antler lines up with the edge of the tree. I would make the antlers a tad longer to stick out past the tree a bit.

@TheArtBard Ah, okay!
That all makes sense. It really is a neat image and I think you did a great job on the assignment overall.
You're so welcome
I can't wait to see more of your work! -
@TheArtBard I think like others have said you have created an enchanting and mystic atmosphere! I like the unique emblem on the tree also.
