Christmas Speedpaint Series - Critiques Welcomed
-
Hello, I've been looking for different ways I can expand my name, so I made a Youtube channel and started doing speedpaints. I've always wanted to try it out since I was in high school but was a bit afraid of doing my work in one sitting.
I know it's not December yet, but I think the sooner the better. This is the first piece to a series of drawings I'll be doing in December. Let me know what you think of my techniques from the video so I can improve in the next video. Thanks!

Also I know that 'Merry Pasco' is probably not one of the many ways Filipinos say "Merry Christmas". But I thought it'd be cute if it said something sort of "Taglish".

Progress on my next speedpaint video.

Progress on my next speedpaint. I am featuring an entire Filipino family making Ube Roll Cakes together.

Also, feel comfortable making your own suggestions on how I can improve a piece during a process. That way I can improve and deliver art you want to see.

Hi! I’m sorry i’m just commenting to your post just now. I’ve been really swarmed with deadlines lately. I don’t have another deadline until next week so I’m free today tho I’d like to keep this short because I desperately need to sleep.
I think you’re making some progress here. I love the colors you've chosen. Making christmas illustration is also a great addition to your portfolio.
However, I see a few major issues here. I think the characters have awkward poses. The christmas lady in the first image is awkwardly slouching. Instead of confident and glamorous, her pose reads sickly and in need of assistance
In your latest piece. I think the dad character is over done. His stance is so curve that it doesn’t seem natural anymore. I think your perspective is a bit off too.
I made a couple of redraws below.
Overall, I think you’re improving, work more on your gestures and perspective, and MAAYONG PASKO!!!

@Nyrryl-Cadiz OMG That's practically the same pose I gave that character in her original 2018 design.
Well for the most part.

Progress with the helpful advice of @Nyrryl-Cadiz
I'll fix some of the noticeable issues on this piece later. Just wanted to show the flats.

Progress. Have to turn in for the night. -
Had to color correct a bit due to compression. The video is in the process of being rendered. Will upload at my latest convenience.

Please let me know what you think of my process by commenting on this thread. I changed the format so you can see my layers and my brushes.

Hey everyone, I just finished my commissions with a client yesterday and I thought I'd get started on what could potentially be my last illustration before Christmas. I really was hoping to do more this month, but time is money.
These characters are based on the main cast for my intellectual property for a children's screenplay back in 2018. For me this is an exercsie to both update their dseigns and practice consistency. The new composition doesn't seem to perfectly match everyone's designs, but I think since my art style has since evolved, it's more justified.
PLEASE give me any feedback that you'd like to share. Whether it'd be based on how I composed the sketch before I go into coloring. Or how you feel about the 2018 designs being translated into 2020. For some reason I feel like Olongapo's face is somewhat creepy. Maybe it's because his mouth and nose are somewhat semi-realistic lol.

This piece got crowded REALLY fast.
This is just the flats stage. Will render today and hopefully finish before tonight.

Not done yet, just sharing progress.

@Michael-Angelo-Go hi! Ok, so I’ll comment on the biggest issue I’m seeing so far. I think your composition is too messy. For this piece, I think it will look great if you center it and extend the canvas lower to show more of the kids at the bottom. I’ve attached my redraw below.

@Nyrryl-Cadiz More symmetry. Rule of thirds. Got it! I'll try to get the revision out by tonight or tomorrow morning

Hello @Nyrryl-Cadiz I did what you recommended, I hope you're happy.
What I did was I had them more huddled like you recommended. I had the characters appear more like they're interacting with each other rather than doing their own thing, while next to each other.
I shrunk Isabela's barbie car and added packaging to bring less focus to the present, because I wanted her eyes to be eyes focused on her friend below her. I also had Olongapo looking at Little Manila.
I hope Davao's expression isn't too animated or distracts from the piece. He's the only one not smiling ha ha. I also made a video of the original process.
