'together' contest WIP
-
I was gonna sit this one out this month cuz I got some deadlines coming together all on November 30th, but I get to attent the all star so I gotta make somethin'!
Concept is a group of kids combining blocks to make a castle far grander than their classmate's.
Simple sihl/value study
Start of a colour study. The idea is that each kid has their own colour of blocks, and they're putting them together to build a big castle. Selfish Sandy who keep his blocks to himself is much jealous.

@Braden-Hallett have you thought about flipping the guy working alone so he faces away from everyone? So he'll feel more seperated from the group?
-
@Braden-Hallett Such an appealing layout, use of tonality, and composition! Such a great start and truly would have liked to have seen your final rendition. I am gonna fanboy a bit here and say that your portfolio is super awesome and exudes so much charm!
-
@carlianne I'm actually looking to make him a little LESS removed from the group. The more isolated and contrasted I make him the more likely the image will read as 'alone' instead of 'together'.
But then again I may try your idea! One never knows when something'll read clear as a bell
also have a hard time ignoring the rules of musical theatre which are mostly 'all actors should be paying attention to what the audience should be paying attention to'
-
@notfitkid Thanks so much
-
@Braden-Hallett I agree that making him less removed adds to the "togetherness" of the piece.
Though I'm not trying to be "everything-has-to-be-happy," I'm wondering if maybe the outcast kid could have a piece that they need (or will eventually need) and that way he gets to be a part of "together" as well? Just a thought.
Love the layout and concept and looking forward to seeing more!
-
@Braden-Hallett I think you could have his body facing away while he is looking at them if you wanted to follow the musical theater rule
Not sure if it would read as alone vs. together though that's a great thing to consider! Might depend on his expression too

That's a neat idea! I'll try that out for sure

Glaring sullenly over his shoulder, perhaps? Stealing glances at their majestic castle as he toils away with his small selection of basic blocks? Absolutely

@Braden-Hallett exaaaaaactly
-
Work progresses! I've got a bit more time for the all star contest (Which I'm glad for cuz I JUST finished the two projects I had)
Gotta add some details to the tower and some random blocks, but after that it's just characters! Home free
-
As a teacher, I know those clear plastic bins with their names written in coloured paper and taped onto the front. chef's kiss
-
@kylebeaudette Allllll teachers know the bins. The filthy, filthy bins, lol
-
@Braden-Hallett Did you complete this and hand it in?
-
@Heather-Boyd We get a few extra days for the all star arena
