@Leontine-Gaasenbeek That is adorable!!!!

A little late to the party, but still found it hehe. I just started the ICB course. I am in love with the drawings so far! Part of what inspired me to start it heh. I printed the first assignment and was working on it at work...yay desk job! here are a few of my squirrels Critique is welcome!
-
@Lynn-Larson I love them, especially the one who's reaching fur nuts, it tells a story even though it's only a sketch!!
-
@Leontine-Gaasenbeek your little girl in the assignment no 4 you posted, came out beautifully! Very nice job on the soft painterly effect as well!
-
made some adjustments, forgot the flower, so i added that as wel XD
-
@Leontine-Gaasenbeek She's beautiful! Maybe a hint of mischief in those big eyes? hehe
-
@Lynn-Larson that can be changed, maybe ill try and post an update.
-
You don't have to change anything! I have a 7 yo grandson, and I know the most innocent looks has something behind it hehe!
-
@Lynn-Larson XD

@Leontine-Gaasenbeek I love everything about your pretty pink little girl... except the eyes. I'm sorry to say this but I find them somewhat creepy. I'm not sure if its the lack of eyelids or that the iris is such a dark brown that it looks like one big pupil but I think you could make this character that much better with some small adjustments. I'd like to see an eyebrow in there too. I know what you were going for - that big, innocent eye look, but I think you can do that with more contrast between the iris/pupil without it all blending into one.
Also - she's missing just a hint of an ear lobe on the left, below the flower. This isn't make or break though - without it the hair seems as if its falling in front of the ear which is fine (but not necessarily following the reference photo is all).
Such a great job with the rendering - wow that hair in particular is great! And her pose is super cute

@Lynn-Larson Welcome to the party!
Good job with the first assignment - I also love the little guy who's stretching upwards - so cute. I'm wondering if a squirrel's legs would invert inwards like that if he was up on two legs? Not sure, I'd have to see reference imagery to know for sure. Also - not sure what that dark area is in his crotch area... it looks somewhat phallic to me! haha
The top single head one reminds me of Will Terry's style actually, very round and cute. Was his work an influence? Because of the roundness though I'd say to me he looks more bear-like than squirrel. To keep a squirrel look I think the pointier nose is a defining characteristic.
-
@DanetteDraws Thanks! The dark area is just a bit of shadow for the tail...i had cleaned up the drawing after hehe. The hind legs are a bit different, the top part being a bit longer.
I did just finish the video with the bunny, so probably some influence there. I had issues with the nose, so back to the sketching board...nose pointier, ears bigger i think

@Leontine-Gaasenbeek YES!!! I love it! It looks really great now. I see you've added in her teeth too, which is a nice touch as well.
I think you could've kept the eyes as large as they were (in overall size), but perhaps she does look more human with the most recent changes.
Are you happy with it?
-
@Leontine Gaasenbeek, she is so cute! and your rendering with digital paint is so nice, love how your blended everything together so well.
-
@DanetteDraws Thanks for your positive comments. i love it how we push each other to get the best out of every illustration, even if its an assignment for practice. I like it better because she looks way healthier now, you can see that she's also happier. The nose is better, but the left eye is a bit to small. overall I am happy with it. Thanks again!
-
@Naroth-Cow thank you! Your positive comments inspire me to continue practicing.
