iPad Pro recommendations - Low Budget Edition
-
Hi guys,
I was reading through Laura’s post here:
https://forum.svslearn.com/topic/8602/ipad-pro-recommendations-and-questions/16
and it was very helpful.
However, I was wondering, what is the lowest budget iPad Pro anyone could recommend? Is there any reason why the first generation iPad Pro wouldn’t do the trick for Procreate? I’m talkin’, what’s the least amount of money I can manage to spend right now (out of true necessity, not stinginess)?
I was hoping to format book spreads in Procreate, but then I realized that on the iPad Mini I have, Procreate restricts the maximum page size on that device to a smaller size than I would need. Also, I can no longer update to the newest version of Procreate, which I hear is pretty awesome.
Thanks so much for the help...

@KathrynAdebayo im using a mini too. I’m glad to see I’m not alone in this. The new procreate does look really awesome especially with the new watercolor brushes that are available. Is your mini compatible with the Apple Pencil? Mine’s not. Lol.
I’m curious to see what people have to say about this subject. Thanx for posting. -
I have a first gen ipad pro and procreate still works fine. In fact I've been told by one or two people who've bought new ipads to stick with my older one (they're good units) I think there's an issue with my pencil (also one of the first off the line, so I'm not surprised it's a tad buggy), but I'm pretty sure the ipad itself is just fine.

@burvantill Hi Lisa, No pencil for us... For me, it’s finger painting all the way! It’s actually not bad at all... it would just be interesting to experiment with line weight and such.
As an update to this post, I realized that a 6th generation iPad can also use an Apple Pencil and has a large enough canvas size option for my project... it may be a less expensive option. The same goes for iPad Air 3rd generation, but that is slightly more pricey.

@Braden-Hallett
Thanks a lot, Braden. That’s great to hear. Sometimes the old stuff is the best!

Also, I’m thinking second hand or refurbished is the way to go... any ideas about finding used items aside from eBay? I don’t have Facebook. Is there any “artist version” of eBay out there?

There's no first gens in the canada store, but the US store may be different.
