Another Witch Illustration
-
Hi guys!So I'm doing another illustration for my portfolio. I decided to do another witch drawing to show consistency in style and character design.
In this illustration she is mixing some potions and her brew just exploded on her. I haven't added the explosion and the smoke yet because I wanted to work on the composition first. The stuff that is in grey will all be part of the background. I added it so it would be easier to see.
I would love to hear your comments and suggestions!

thy only thing on my opinion that is bothering me is the
lower right corner.
its like seeing the witch first cat second and then that corner leading me away from the canvas instead of keeping my atention on the canvas! its like a bow down! if you know what i mean?!
overal it looks like a great piece, love the perspective of the background, the caracters are looking very cool.
i cant wait to see it finished piece in color
so please keep us posted -
Hey smoke thanks for the suggestion. It does look kinda empty down there. I will probably make the plant down there bigger or something.
I will! Still have a lot to do. I'm working on different lighting possibilities, I'll post soon!

@Sharon-Sordo I really like what you have started here. I looked at your previous posts and tend to like your work better at the sketch stage. Once rendered some of the energy of the piece gets lost. I look forward to seeing this piece develop.

I can tell this is going to be fun! Good job on the angles and interest!
-
Really liking your attention to detail for the background. Are those eyeballs???
-
I like it. The right corner doesn't bother me. Depending on how bad the explosion is, she might want to look more animated. If it's just a poof, it fits but if it's a big bang I think she needs a more shocked looking expression and maybe her arm would be up higher or more in front of her face...something like that.

Love the fact that your shelves are leading the eye into the picture and pointing at the characters. nice
-
Lovely piece, your on the right track here! I like the 'kind spookyness' children love that !
-
@seanwelty Really? I've never thought about that. I'll have to look back at my sketching and compare it to the finished piece. Thanks for pointing it out!
-
@bharris Thanks so much! I was really trying to step out of my front-view comfort zone. Having the same pov every time gets repetitive.
-
@shinjifujioka Yes, I love adding detail in interiors it tells more about the character without having to say much. Haha, yes they are eyeballs. She's a witch so she has witchy things?! lol
-
@Marsha-Kay-Ottum-Owen Yeah, I wanted it to be more of a poof. I guess if I wanted to do the explosion then she would have to be shielding her eyes or something.
-
@Lee-Holland Thank you!
-
@Leontine I didn't want to make it too scary, so I tried to add a little comedy with the explosion. I'm also thinking of making the explosion a vibrant color like a pink or green.
-
@Sharon-Sordo I think it isn't scary as in in scary, but more like nicely spooky, the way that children like. They love eyeballs and stuff like that!
-
Working on the lighting and values. I want it to be night outside. I was also thinking of having some moon rays coming in through the ceiling just so the bg wouldn't be so dark.
-
really like the busy but yet not busy image because there is a good focus point there! Love their expressions as well.
-
Yeah!! GREAT!! the values are great now!! love it, love it, love it!!
-
@Naroth-Kean Awesome thanks! I like to add so much detail, but i have to tone it down with the values lol
