I Got Glasses, But Still Having Eye Problems from Time on Computer/Ipad Screens



  • Hey Art Peeps,
    I got an eyeball question for y'all, let me know if any of y'all have any tips or suggestions 🙂

    Ever since I got out of school two years ago, I've been working a day job as a graphic designer. I spend at least 7-9 hours a day on a screen. As of this last year, my left eye started to twitch a lot and it kept getting worse over time (at that time I didn't have a pair of prescription glasses, I just wore computer glasses to filter out the blue light). In addition, I also got a few floaters in my eyes mostly just my left eye. So I splurged and went to an eye doc. I got a prescription and got a pair of prescription glasses.

    Now I've had these glasses for a probably 5 months. My eye twitching has stopped, yey! but my eye floaters are getting worse. I've been trying to give my eyes breaks from screen time, but it doesn't seem to help much.

    Do any of you have suggestions or have any eye experiences that is similar? I'm planning on giving my eye doc a call again soon, but I thought I would ask you all first.



  • I have floaters, too. I don't think it has to do with eye strain as much as it does getting older and your eyeball gel sticking together. (scientific terms here!)

    There are some eye exercises you can do to help relieve eye strain a little. Close your eyes and look to your lower left as far as you can for five seconds, then relax. Then look to the left as far as you can, then rest. Then to the upper left as far as you can, then relax. Then up, then upper righter, then right, then lower right, then down. It doesn't get rid of it completely, but it helps. Eyeball stretches ftw.



  • I don’t know how to help but I have terrible floaters too. They used to really annoy me, but I think most people have them. I wonder if spending your days looking intently at images and artwork brings them to your attention more. (I also get eye twitches)



  • My mum is an ophthalmologist but she swears by ayurvedic treatments. Sure, you should continue doing eye exercises and palming if you're sitting long hours in front of the screen, but imo those are preventive measures and not cures.
    She used to get dry eye syndrome and floaters too and then she started using PATANJALI DRISHTI EYE DROPS and it has worked wonders for her.
    It's available on Amazon if you'd like to give it a try. Since it's ayurvedic and made of natural ingredients, it won't have any side effects.
    WARNING: It's basically a concoction of ginger, honey, onion and lime. So it'll sting like hell for a few minutes and you'll probably hate me. But it's helped a lot of people so I'd suggest you to read up about it first and decide for yourself 🙂

    Floaters aren’t from eye strain or anything; they are unfortunately just a sign that you are getting older 🙂 I’m 61 and have had them for quite a while. They will actually become less annoying as you get older because the stuff in your eye will thicken and they will float around less so your brain will stop noticing them. As far as the glasses go, that too will be a constant battle - I’ve gone from no glasses to regular glasses to bifocals and back to no glasses trying to be able to see closeup because my eyes just keep changing. It’s a pain in the neck but so far, it hasn’t stopped me from drawing. Good luck!



  • @TwiggyT Thanks for the tips on eye exercises! I'm gonna start today. Hahaha, I love it, eyeball stretches. My co-workers are going to get a kick out of that 🙂

    @peteolczyk Yeah, I think your right about most people having them. I was talking to one of my chums this week and she is my age, 26, and she also has them. I really notice them when its a bright sunny day. And it super annoying when I'm snowboarding and the snow is so bright. They are super noticeable then. yeah, eye twitches are soooo annoying and kinda weird too lol

    I also found this cool app yesterday called Time Out, and one can customize it to prompt eye breaks or to get up and walk around. I think that it will help some too. It has normal breaks and then micro breaks, which I really like.

    @demotlj Thanks for the advice, I can't wait to get older now lol! Yeah, The glasses are hard sometimes. It took me so long to get used to having a prescription in my glasses. I also have a computer blue light filter on them too. I think it helps.



  • Maybe evaluate if you need a magnesium supplement, or need more magnesium rich foods. I had eye twitches a few years back, did some google searching, decided to try out a daily magnesium tablet and the eye twitches went away- and now that I think about it, I had a really big eye floater that isn't prominent anymore. Whether that's due to the magnesium or not, who knows. It might be something for you to look into.



  • I don’t know about floaters, but a general tip I’ve heard for relaxing your eyes (and possibly neck muscles) is to frequently take short breaks from the screen to just look out the window for a minute or so. When you focus on something that is far away the eye muscles can relax 🙂

    @karolifo Yeah, I'm trying to take lots of breaks from the screen now, Sadly though, I don't have an office window. I keep teasing my boss to giving me one.
