How I'm Using Inktober For A Better Community
-
Hey y'all!
So I've decided to bank off of Inktober to try to foster a better creative community here at my college, and I was able to get a spot in our campus paper (incidentally, I happen to work for said paper as the layout editor... but we were running short on content so the Editor and chief decided to do my story!) Check it out!
To Jake Parker, thanks so much for putting content out for artists and illustrators to latch on to. I will be banking off of it intensely this October

@jabbernewt that's great! Where is Grace College? Is that a Christian college?
-
@chrisaakins Little liberal arts college in Warsaw Indiana, and yes, Christian college! Being so, the college itself doesn't offer phenomenal illustration education- nothing like a dedicated art school might- but we're able to get by with a strong core of Visual communication design, which very well lends itself to understanding the vernacular of illustration.

@jabbernewt that's cool! Nothing wrong with small schools. No getting lost in the crowd.
-
@chrisaakins Very true, and although we are less equipped than, say, a large state college, the opportunities that crop up for students to fulfill, such as being the campus paper's layout editor or other misc opportunities, are much more frequent I would think.

This is such a cool thing to do! I always get excited when people use art to connect the people around them. Keep it up!

@kerilynnwilson Yeah dude! I will say that it's very taxing-- between classes, my job, fulfilling the needs of the assignment I'm doing in conjunction with forming the community, and a slew of other things, I have had a lot on my plate. However, the intersection of creatives is just so important, especially in places where there are many creatives but no community. I can't wait to see how this all goes, and I am unbelievably thankful for folks like Jake who have provided the bulk of the learning that I'll be using to get it all together.

Had the Inktober Meeting today! In and out in about 45 minutes, and we've got at least 14 participants not including myself!

@jabbernewt that is good news! Are they all going to do Inktoberfest with you?
