Children book writers place where illustrators can hangout?
-
Hi everyone
A quick question I was having on my mind these last weeks (and several months/years ago as well)
Does anyone know a place to hangout with children book writers or simply story writers for kids?I tried some Facebook groups, but the main one I tried to join didn't accept me yet since almost a week now.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/68829480316/Any tips for a cool place, or maybe even a Skype group, free access workshop maybe?
(unfortunately I don't have a budget yet to pay a writer, so i'll be trying to meet some writers and study possibilities of common projects)
Thanks in advance, oh and any additional advice is welcome as well (for example around the subject of illustrator/writer partnerships! )Karim

@Karim-Benyagoub I am not sure where you are located but have you considered looking into the SCBWI (Society for Children's Book Writer and Illustrators)? https://www.scbwi.org/region-map/ They have regional chapters all over the world and in many cases they have local networks that meet regularly. Here in the greater Chicago area there are both writer meetings and illustrator specific meetings and events just about monthly. I have found them to be a great way to meet others and learn from them!

@Rich-Green thanks! I already looked at that association before (a couple of months ago,) but I didn't find my region "north Africa" and I'm not a member yet, since I'm not a professional illustrator for kids yet, but I'm still interested in meeting writers online. I guess that it's only logical that I meet people who are at the same level as me: can produce good enough content but are not professional yet (as in, not making money professionally in the field.)
If anyone has simpler tips to meet writers interested in writer-illustrator mini projects then it could be cool, thanks in advance!

@Karim-Benyagoub Hey Karim, you might want to try one of the groups on LinkedIn - there's quite a few children's writers/illustrator ones with a sizeable number of active participants. You'll find beginners right through to professionals in the various groups.
There's a lot of posts made by writers looking to collaborate with an illustrator on the story they've crafted.

@DanetteDraws thanks! sounds like what I'm looking for, do you know the name of the particular group you mentioned?
I found this one "Children's Book Illustrators and Authors" with 20 000 members, tried to join but they say it reached the maximum number of members allowed, so i guess i'd join any group I could then?
Thanks again for your great suggestion -
@Karim-Benyagoub Its been a little while since I was more active in the groups so I don't recall which ones might best suit your needs, but here's some of the ones I belong to that you might be interested in:

I'm also in a Facebook group with illustrator artists, some of them are form my country, or even my city, and it's nice to share experiences live.
