Rococo Wonderland project
-
So a while ago I made this picture of Queen of Hearts, with the idea of the story being Alice in Wonderland in French Rococo style.
I had made a second illustration I left unfinished a year ago. Should I redraw it and finish it to add to my portfolio? -
@kayleenartlover definitely finish and add. I love the queen of hearts drawing. Just make sure that the two styles match.
-
@Meg-Clayburn Definitely same style as the first one. The original unfinished image was more of replicating the oil paintings but digital. Just playing around. But I loved the composition matching the style more than the digital brush I used.
-
@kayleenartlover that makes sense. Definitely think having the two in your portfolio is worth it.

so I‘m in thumbnail stage, I have to keep the size of the canvas the same as the Queen of Hearts illustration, but what are some other versions of this scene I should try while keeping it similar to the reference images I found? Fo context, I’m drawing the chapter when Alice talks to the Cheshire Cat in the book.
-
@kayleenartlover Definitely liking that last thumbnail most so far. Also curious to see how you develop Alice. I know your queen illustration is still somewhat cartoony, but it does also look slightly more realistic and refined than the sketches I’m seeing so far of Alice (You nailed the queen—I want to see more of that). Right now Alice looks a little simplistic. I almost feel like it’s too obvious that she’s made of simple shapes, and it takes some of the energy out of her gestures.
-
@Sarah-VanDam do you mean the thumbnails or the sketches with different dresses? I was leaning towards the drawing on the bottom of that page, drawn in pink. If I change the nose will that help?
This was an earlier sketch of Alice:
This is what I’ve been drawing more recently:

@kayleenartlover Hey, sorry I took so long to respond. Maybe changing the nose will help? Overall, your queen, while still being stylized, just seems to have a little more anatomical accuracy and interesting proportions than Alice so far.
