Hi guys,
I have no idea what category this was supposed to go in, so apologies if I don't have right one.

The short version of this question/request is... why does my traditional work look so different than my digital work, and how do I take my traditional work and make it look great in digital? How do I make my work feel more cohesive?

Okay now the longer version for some context...
One of my goals last and this year was to have a solid portfolio.

I have always gravitated towards traditional work- I love impressionism, seeing brushstrokes, paint splatters, scratchy pencil marks. I mostly love graphite, watercolor and adding in mixed media.

To accomplish this goal I decided to choose a few of my own picture books or illustrated projects I am working on, and some pieces or themes that I like and want to work with.

... but as I went through several months of sketches/ideas, I felt frustrated. Some of the pieces that I have done and experimented as far back as 2018 are more pleasing than some I have done recently... I have played around with digital (procreate) and some of the pieces just look so bad...and I wish I had a more clear formula rather than just messing around and trying things...

I do suspect one of my issues is color- when I do traditional, everything comes out really blah and flat. And when I try digital, it looks pretty messy..or really stiff!

I have a collection of favorite artists and illustrators, and what I like about each of their work, and have tried to emulate them. I have So much of it feels like experimenting and I want to have a cohesive art style that is a little more predicable. I am taking the Art style course (and I have watched so many YT vids on the topic).

Anyways, I have seen a lot of work here on the forum that is amazing, and I really do believe that I will get better and even great one day if I am doing the right stuff...I just don't know exactly what I am missing. Here are some pieces of work I have done for some more context. (some of it is not narrative, but just so you can get the basic idea)

Some earlier work:

Some more recent work, inspired by my personal interests, and a little more character and story driven, but it just feels like when I go to put color, it kind of falls apart, or at least I don't feel like I know what I am doing:

And here I brought Lord Ashley Cooper to Procreate and attempted to color him:

And again, a sketch for a pic book I'm writing...and then an attempt to color in procreate...

Anyways, I know that is a lot of pics, but I wanted to show the range of my work, and how I kind of just don't know which way/style to go when working on a piece, and I do a lot of guessing and playing around.
How do I proceed from here? What would you say I should focus on? ( I am already participating in the HTFYA challenges, so that will push me, but I'm not even happy with my work on those!)
I hope this all made sense.
