Dead Uncle Derek
-
I'm working on my next book called 'Dead Uncle Derek'. I'm working with a small publisher who saw me post a short story on twitter with this character. They loved it and bought it up immediately
This is an illustrated novel, and it's for teens/adults. I think..we discussed it being an 'adult' children's book, but I'll see where the story goes I guess. I love the idea of children's books for adults, I think that's a cool market.Basically a boy's dead Uncle takes him to hell for summer break. It's silly and gross, and very Tim Burton/Roald Dahl (two of my big influences)

This looks hilarious @kylebeaudette! Congratulations on your next book deal!

@Jeremy-Ross thanks! I hope it's funny, we'll see

Congratulations!
The title is catchy. This looks like an amusing book for the quirky dark humor set. Not that you asked, but I'd vote for "teens/adults".
You're hitting the Quentin Blake* vibe in the drawings.
On the off chance you're not familiar, you should check out Edward Gorey.
*(For the curious, but not enough to look it up: Quentin Blake Illustrated 18 Roald Dahl books.)

I really enjoy this concept. I kind of like stories or books where one character takes the other on a bit of a trip to introduce them to a place they have no knowledge of. In that way, Uncle Derek in this case, gets to guide the viewer through this hellscape.
This image of all of these says it all to me and I love it! LMAO

This is so creepy, young me would love it! Old me too Definite Roald Dahl vibes.
