SVS Virtual Studio MAY 2023

Hey folks! I hope everyone has been doing well and getting a bit sunshine! I’ve been a bit absent around here lately as I’ve been spending a lot of time outdoors after such a long winter. Hiking and getting my hands dirty in the garden (always very grounding for me). Also I visited the Monterey Bay Aquarium last week and it was sooo inspirational, which was convenient because when we returned I was commissioned to do some ocean inspired nursery art for a family friend! I’ll post my progress on that below, ok enough about me. Oh! I almost forgot about Mermay! Let’s “sea” those mermaids! Aaand be on the lookout for some Star Wars inspired art on may 4th, may the “fourth” be with you!
Now, let us stroll through your studio, wherever that may be, your spare bedroom, garage, or in my case the kitchen table, and let us peek at what you are working on. We are NOT here to critique, but to support and encourage, applaud, and of course ooh and aah.

Here’s how my nursery art is going

Just started messing around with character design for a sad monster named Edgar. This is my first attempt and am curious as to where he will end up after exploring some new shapes and proportions. As of now, Edgar is a tad too cute and a lot too generic. Gotta get those creative juices flowing somehow. But I am challenging myself to show work that is in progress and not finished/perfect. So here it is. Hope all is going well with you all. Looking forward to seeing your works as well. Happy May!!!

Inspired by the soft green that's starting to pop up everywhere, I painted this troll mom.
-
@Mia-Clarke That beautiful background is exactly what I had in mind when I tried painting my bedroom wall when I was 15. Disappointingly, it didn't end up looking anything like this.
-
@Robyn-Hepburn I relate hard to the trying-to-do-awesome-remodeling-at-15-and-seriously-missing-the-mark-vibes.
-
@Mia-Clarke So glad I'm not the only one!
-
Ah! I forgot that it's May already. Thanks for reminding me.
Here's a page from my sketchbook that I filled on Saturday while out in the wilds of Somerset with my drawing buddy. (By "wild" I mean we sat at an outside table of the café.) -
@Robyn-Hepburn Love the stylized view up through those branches. Looks like an awesome day.
-
@Robyn-Hepburn Oh my that's sooo inspiring!!

Lately I've been in the mode of "I gotta make something for a purpose" which has really been draining my creativity... I started painting acrobats with spare paper and watercolors simply because I enjoy it and it's been so refreshing to create just for the joy of it.
-
@AjugaBee this is sooo well done! Love the motion in the characters
-
@MiaNova Thank you!
-
@AjugaBee Yes, I know that feeling! Too much pressure. That's why I'm taking a break from Instagram for a while - I felt that everything had to be Instagram-worthy.
This looks like you really had an enjoyable time just drawing for the sake of it. Wonderful! -
@AjugaBee 🥳 Thank you!
-
I've made a few panels of the first episode for my long form web comic. It's called Adventures with Ralph the Night Hairdresser.

Hi Everyone!
I am new to the forum and very excited to share some of my artwork and hopefully get some comments. This is the first piece I wanna share; please feel free to say absolutely anything about it. This is just a practice piece to study color and value. Feel free to follow my IG if you want: @richy.s.ayala
