January Contest?
-
Does anyone know when the next contest prompt will be announced? I last entered one in March, and I'm looking forward to getting back into it.
-
@brettb_draws From what I understand they are making some changes and won't be doing regular critique arenas each month. They have a new Fix My Art that they are focusing on.
-
@brettb_draws critique arena is done I'm so sad that it won't be a regular thing anymore.
-
@AngelinaKizz Right?? Just when I was getting going! I bet they'll come up with something even better. It seems they were concerned with creating a format that can allow more success for entries, in an encouraging way, where many are needing that boost. It's hard to enter something time after time, and not make it, only to see there are the same entries that make it, even though they are phenomenal and do deserve to be there. Having real time feedback on the How to Fix Your Art is such a great approach I think.
And at the end of the day there are only so many hours in a day, and just three doing their best to attend to such a wide net of artists. Much respect, and thank you Jake, Will and Lee for your commitment to helping us all get better!!!
Anyway, I am looking forward to what they come up with!

Yes this did not help with my depression
-
@Asyas_illos big hug to you! Glad to see you keep creating. Your work is inspiring.
Maybe we should make our own prompt to keep the juices flowing and enter into the fix my art? Untill something else surfaces? It always helps to me to have some prompt to get creative juices flowing instead of getting stuck in my own thoughts and not really creating much.
And happy new year to all! May your new year be filled with creativity, positive vibes and health.
Here the fireworks have been going on for the whole evening non stop and probably will keep up untill midnight. It's now only 20:30. -
@Chantal-Goetheer I love this idea! We could start a thread for it and post our progress.
-
@Chantal-Goetheer @Asyas_illos Hugs from me too, Asya. I will say, without a doubt, you are one of my favorite people in this forum. Holding the light for myself was hard when I first started with SVS. You held a light for me that won't be forgotten So glad you are finding your way through the stuff. Keep creating, you're so good at what you do, and also very inspiring, in your artistic approach as well as how you interact with us in the forum.
Anyway, big hugs! YAY 2023, may the path keep unfolding and anticipating great things this year!

@AngelinaKizz I am also sad. The lessons on the site are great and useful, but to be honest Critique Arena was the real reason I joined SVS. I thought taking part every month will really help me progress. And I only got to participate 3 times and never even got to top 16.
I still believe the contest was very beneficial to us.. And not just to those who kept winning Seeing who did and who didn't get in, and how each piece was judged by fellow artists who voted was teaching us all a lot as well. Even if I didn't always understand or agree with the criteria -
@mzameckaart I hear you and I feel it too! But I understand the reasoning behind. It feels like Critique Arena has run its course when the majority of the artwork in the arena are so good that no critique could be given by the judges, which has been the case for the last few months. On the other hand there are many waiting for a critique who couldn't make it to top 16.
I feel that How to fix your art + a separate monthly challenge will solve both needs. So we'll see where things go!
-
I'm so sad about this! The critique arena was one of my favorite parts of SVS and helped me form my portfolio. I understand it's more beneficial for the advanced students so I understand they'll be helping a wider audience now but it still makes me really sad.

@Frogpunzel Oh man, really? DAMN I was very excited to participate in one of those, seems that I jumped in late :c . Anyway, let's see what they come up with next! The Fix your art series is very cool though!
