Here are are couple of external environment illustrations I did for the external environment class. I don’t have very much experience drawing environments so I found them challenging on a variety of levels. I would appreciate any feedback on how to improve them. Thank you

This second one is a reimagining of an observatory that would be a persons home. Sort of a different take on Meet the Robinsons.

@Bill-B I like that woven leaves idea in the tree! It makes it different than a normal tree. I am a little confused with the scale of the tree and people. The tree seems gigantic, especially with the roots. But if you wanted to convey that it works.

The second one looks well done, but is not very clear to me as a home. It seems an observatory with few homely details. It doesn't tell much story, not sure if external environments should tell a story. Are the external environments meant to be the external view of buildings? I'm missing with the second one the rest of the setting of the buildig. From your description I guess it's on another planet, but the drawing itself could also be on earth.

I can completely relate to challenges on many levels. I never realised how incredibly hard it is to illustrate before I started to try myself, lol.

@Chantal-Goetheer Thanks for the reply. In the first illustration, the vast difference in scale was intentional. In the second one, the story behind it was of a single father and son that live in a normal suburban neighborhood but converted their house into an observatory. I think your comment on homely touches would sell it more, like a garage or maybe some plants. I would need to think of a few more details that make a house a home. Thank you for you feedback.
