This is my thumbnail for "Lucky"...I'm not sure if you can tell what is going on here. If you can, I'd really appreciate a critique. Can you tell what the story is? Thanks!IMG_0195.JPG

Making sandcastles at the beach and finds an actual treasure box?

Next steps in the process…I feel like it’s kind of a boring concept…do you think the idea is solid and has potential?AB054751-A0F3-4D7C-92C2-DB04E83F075E.jpeg

Or…does this concept seem a little more exciting? If you can make it out… C65F7ABF-7ED3-41BA-9EEB-97F2348B5A8E.jpeg

Here is my final...any critique would be appreciated.

Is the style too rough? Thank you!IMG_0485.jpg

@ThomCharles I think the style works and is interesting and charming! I love the story idea, too, but I think you could push the moment more emotionally. His face looks indifferent to me, is he happy, surprised? Did he just open the box, he seems to handle it in a casual way. Depending on what you were going for you could push his gesture and expression, but defenitely keep the style imho! Love the little crab, too 😃

@Holumpa Thanks for the help! I agree the expression could use some work…I was thinking about the concept of luck and maybe adding a “non lucky” element might help with the story telling…in this case having some other kids just building uneventful sand castles…I’m glad you liked the style choices. That is one of the things I wrestle with the most…

@ThomCharles I agree with @Holumpa that the boy is feeling indifferent. He looks pleased but it seems to mismatch how someone would actually feel to find buried treasure. It also looks the the whole image is maybe tilted and could be rotated counter-clockwise a bit?

I think it's really successful style-wise. I kind of feel like the linework on his face could be verging towards feeling a little digitally blurry? Do you know what I mean? It works for the background elements, but maybe his face is ever so slightly blurry. It's so subtle that I question if it's just me though. Love the little details like the crab and it looks like the parents have sock tan lines! 😆

Here’s a little tighter sketch of my other idea..a little more action. The lucky element was the surf board getting stuck in the sharks mouth…but I’m not sure that reads as luck.
