Effective vehicle design: final assignement
I think I got a bit too enthusiastic and bit off more than I can chew but well I wanted to challenge myself for the last assignement. I want to draw a car in a dynamic pose with a from a dynamic angle.
The car I chose is a jeep.
So here are some of my sketches to understand the car (I also did a perspective one, but it was not drawn yet when I took this picture!).
I want to draw it is while drifting. So I started to play with a some gesture drawing, and I got that sketch of the pose/camera angle:
So then, after that, I needed to redo a cleaner sketch on my iPad and start inking, and ...
I kind of mess it up!!
I realised that to get cleaner lines, I needed to understand better my perspective and pose. As opposed to a rough sketck, the line art needs more precise statements.
Today I think I started to understand what I was "intuitively" doing in my sketch.
Because I wanted to give dynamism to the car I was trying to bend the car, and make it bigger on the left side (to squash it), as you would do in animation. My insight of today is that when you bend, stretch or squash an object, you are bending, streaching, squashing its perspective! You can see in the sketch above, I draw the x-axis (magenta), y-axis (green), and z-axis (blue) lines of the bounding box of the car. It was a revelation to me: my perspective has nothing linear anymore ! What I like the most (and would like to play with more) is that z-axis that rotates with the y-axis.
Progress from yesterday:
I think I don't like the brush that I used, it is very suffering from visible pixels.
Also I think I spent too much time on this piece, it is time to move on and continue my tranining.
I will try to finish it in between courses / training.

Wow, nice work!
Here is finally some progress (I started a new course, but I try to finish the Jeep in between).
I had a lot of difficulties with the perspective, and especially with the machine gun; try to attach it to the car in a coherent way.
But I think it looks cool now, it does not look too off.
The backgroung still needs some work.
Ideally I wanted to add a driver and someone using the gun, but not sure if I should start a new piece or continue this one...
I revised thebackground, I added a sharpen filter and some noise filter.
Also I quickly adjust the color, because it seems that the picture looks more "saturated" on iPad, so I had to add 10% saturation on the PC version.
I hope you like it !
