Feb 3rd Thursday - cat and mouse
-
Hi there
Even though I was reading the discussions on the forum for quite a long time, I never had the guts to share with you my work before I finish it. But finally I got the courage and hereβs my take on Feb 3rd Thursday.
The illustration is in progress - I roughly have the colors laid down and now I am working on the younger sister.
I thought of love and remembered my sister - how we were always fighting, but whenever one of us got in troubles, the other one was always there, helping (and laughing...).
Any suggestions or thought will be appreciated!
And a bunch of THANK-YOU! to Will and Lee and Jake for doing such a huge amount of work! -
So endearing!!!! Glad you were brave to share!
-
This is adorable! What a wonderful concept. I can't wait to see your style develop more as you finish this. Keep posting!
-
@mag It's great that you finally got the courage to post - welcome to the SVS community! It's a friendly place and great to share your work so I hope you keep posting too. This is a lovely idea for 3rd Thursday - I like that you have characterised the sisters as cat and mouse, to capture the fighting-but-friends part of your concept. Will be great to see how this progresses
-
@Dulcie Thank you! I have to say - this is the most friendly, yet constructive community I had the chance to be in. Just reading through various discussions helps so much!
-
Here's un update on the illustration. I am not sure about the background - it's still not finished though, so maybe I will find what bugs me after the fancy frame is done...
Any suggestions or advice will be very appreciated! I'm always happy to learn something new. -
I really like the soft, felt/wool-like feeling of the trees and how their clothes/costumes echo that same feeling.
I think if the more defined line work on their face (and the stitching) had more of that same organic/tactile feel it would tie the piece together even more.
Oh, also really like the color palette. It has a very gentle feel to it
-
@shinjifujioka Thank you! I will definitely take a look at that.
-
I really like this piece! I like the background, however, I would maybe try desaturating it a bit so it doesn't compete with the girls as much... Also, I agree with @shinjifujioka about having some of the organic texture on the faces. Finally, maybe you should use another color for the shadow (dark green-blue maybe?); the black is a little distracting and I think it would help to harmonize colors... even on the face you could try a "almost-black green or blue" for the details....
Can't wait to see it finish!

So sweet I especially love the little sister
-
This is really cute I like their outfits.
-
Thank you all for your advices! I tried to applied them and here's the finished illustration.
But - While I was drawing this one, another idea came up. Now I do not know which one of them should I send...
I already have the values and color palette done, ready to color the whole thing.
Any ideas? -
Hahahaha!!! I LOVE the comic! I really don't know which one you should submit. You have very solid skills.
-
@NoWayMe Thank you.
-
I really like the comic as well!
-
love the Comic, its so funny, and nicely designed!
-
Thank you all! I will go with the comic then. I found really helpful the comic class by Jake Parker. I know I still did not draw quite right this page, but I sure will learn. It's funny how much more easily the work can be done, once I come to know the principles.
-
And here's the final version with color. What do you thing? Any suggestions?
Thank you all for your advices and comments! -
Your cartoon is adorable The only thing I don't like about it is that the cat calls the fox an "ingorant twit" - but then again, perhaps that's what a cat WOULD say I love the way you use panels and the characters reads very well!
-
@Camomilla Yeah... I know, it's quite rough to call someone that way and I was also thinking about it, if it's appropriate. But then again, this comic is not supposed for little kids and cats sometimes are unscrupulous - and lovely and warm and cute and the same time.
Would it be better if the cat says: "you little twit" instead? Or something else? I still want the cat to say something a little offensive. But I do not want to go vulgar too much.
