Allow Myself to Introduce Myself
-
Up until last month, I was on the fence about becoming a yearly subscriber to SVS. Then I completed the Children's Book Pro course, and I couldn't sign up fast enough. The extraordinary instruction and enthusiastic instructors sealed the deal for me. I am very happy to be part of this community.
By way of introduction, I am an oil painter; have been for a very long time and I still paint everyday. But I also have some stories to tell, stories for children that I plan to illustrate. So here I am – brand new to digital – new owner of a Wacom tablet and raring to go.
I wrote, illustrated and self-published a children's book a few years ago. The process taught me lots. Find out more about my book, Seven Circles of Light: How They Were Born and What They Became and check out my paintings by visiting: maryannlucasltd.com
Looking forward to making some nice connections here.

Welcome @maryannlucas!

@maryannlucas welcome! Your paintings on your website are gorgeous. There is so much life in your brushwork.
As you're on your children's book journey, if you're looking for picture book recommendations, you may be interested in these:
-
Hum and Swish by Matt Myers -- one of my favorite books, illustrated in acrylic and oil. Your plein air pieces remind me of this book ... maybe similar style or subject matter?
-
A Stone for Sascha by Aaron Becker -- a wordless picture book rendered digitally with very expressive mark making.
-
Honeybee and Giant Squid both written by Candace Fleming and illustrated by Eric Rohmann. -- While these nonfiction books are well written, the draw for me is Eric Rohmann's illustrations rendered in oil on paper. They're gorgeous!
These books inspire me, both as an author and an illustrator -- hope they help inspire you too!

@asyas_illos I have a question. What is an upvote? Why do people do it?
-
@burvantill Hi.
Thanks for the nice welcome. I wondered if you could tell me what an upvote is? Also, how do I post to the January Studio? Finally, I inadvertently deleted my post in the "introduction" section. Is it possible to undue that?And... I looked at your work. I love it.
